Is anyone able to find any road bikes for children? My friends have an 8 year old son and are seeking a road bike. Something that doesn’t weigh a ton as most of these cheap kids bikes do.
I have heard of the Fuji Ace 20. Any parents out there who are serious about their kids bikes needs. I am seeking advice.
Should I tell them to buy the fuji. How many of you are in the same situation. Are you willing to pay 1000 USD for a bike that is light with good parts built for kids? Is there anything out there like that? 7 kg road bike for kids? carbon/ 7005 alloy?
In need of counsel, advice, discussion, etc. Please comment and let me know.
What options are there, do you wish there was a better bike out there?
There’s a thread about this on BT right now. Specific bikes mentioned were the Fuji Ace, Specialized Junior Allez, and Redline Conquest all available in 24". Someone else mentioned that you could get an adult extra small ~43cm 650c bike for a similar price with much better components. One other person on there had a GMC Denali bike from Target/Walmart and liked it but it was significantly heavier than the legitimate road bikes.
Or you could always just put him on your bike… He may not be able to pedal, but he’ll be the aeroest dude out there.
What is BT? can you send me the link please. What price would you be able to pay for a road bike? Am i crazy to think parents will pay 1000 USD for a kid to have a super sexy kids racing bike?
Best I could find was a Jamis women’s bikes - 44, but that was for my 10 year old. It did have 700 wheels which was a plus so he can use it for a few years and then his brother can. (and my old 1080 will fit on it)
My younger one is still on a “mountain bike” type bike.
As for the cost - I’d easily spend a grand on a bike for them.
Best advice I have is to watch Craigslist for small women’s specific road bikes. My son is now still throwing a bike size a year. There is no sense in putting a pre teen or teen on a new bike.
The last kids TRI my son did I had to go into transition and rack bikes. I saw a kid less than 12 toss a bike with older Zipps right onto the ground.
You don’t really appreciate how much bikes are until you are buying.
I have a friend who bought his kid this bike, but money wasn’t really a concern for him. I’m not really sure if I could lay down that dough for my kids. Their fickle nature and tendency to be pretty rough on things would make me hesitant.
Cannondale Caad Series. You can get one for around 600 to 1300, new/used. This aluminum is better than most Carbon

Scott makes a great little kid’s bike. I believe it’s in the $700 range.
Our local bike shop has one instock now 928-445-0636. It has 24 in wheels.
I searched all over for my boys’ and ended up getting 2 Specialized bikes, one local and one from George’s bikes in Boise. I believe Specialize stopped making them.
There is a GREAT resale market for used kids cross rigs (not so much roadies) typically ~$300 - $400. I just sold my son’s Kona complete with a second set of 24" wheels w/ road tires (panaracer pasela ?).
Those little Felts look great. I’ve got my eye on one for my daughters. Heck, they’re so cute, you could almost use them as home decor. As long as you only have other cyclists over.
