Chicago marathon - best hotel near ORD airport to stay at?

Not willing to spend $300/night to stay in downtown so I’m wondering what are so cheaper options that is also close to the airport (ORD)?

Thanks

Tons of hotels near O’Hare. Hilton Garden Inn on River Road sometimes has good rates.

There are tons in Rosemont.

thanks yea thats where i am staying…

What’s your plan for getting to the race start the morning of the race?

I’ve stayed walking distance from the start a couple times and it’s very nice the morning of. One less thing to worry about. Traffic and parking downtown Chicago is crazy the morning of the race.

If you stay in Rosemont or anywhere else I would recommend staying somewhere close to the CTA train station. The morning of you could ride in with no worries.

anything you can find near the blue line would be easy to get to the race. If you are coming from Rosemont plan on 30-40 min on the train and I think the CTA is free on marathon day (otherwise it’s $2.50). Trains will drop you off right near the start and will be about as close as you can (or would want) to get to the start anyway. Driving in can be a mess if you don’t know the area that well, although they have it down to a good science at this point. My point is google maps may say one thing and the police may say another which can lead you to being stuck for longer than you want.

The Hilton that you can walk to from the terminals has a great fitness center, including lap pool, steam room, etc. Even if you’re not staying there, you can drop in for something like $20 (though this was a few years ago). I’ve had more than one connecting flight in ORD delayed, so have taken advantage of that place more than once. Thankfully I don’t have to travel for work that much anymore.

Ive stayed at the Holiday Inn in Rosemont a few times for Park-n-fly. It’s quite nice, I’m just not sure how close it is to public transportation.

There should be plenty of hotel rooms for under that price range through the travel booking site associated with the race. When I ran it, I stayed at the W city center for around $200/night, and it was 4 blocks form Grant Park

Not really part of the questions… but if you have to eat at ORD, I would highly recommend Tortas Fontera!

I also wouldn’t be worried about driving in race morning. I’ve done the race 5x since 2010 and always drove in with my parents and parked in a garage maybe a half mile away. Reserve your spot with one of the parking apps to be sure you’re as close as possible. But the train might be better since you can just sit back then not worry about driving back to the hotel after. Just more food for thought.

Look at downtown hotels on Hotwire first. You can’t come to Chicago and stay in Rosemont. That’s just wrong (unless you like casinos and outlets). Book a month ahead on Hotwire and you’ll find a good deal downtown, even on marathon weekend.

Check Airbnb

I wouldn’t stay near ORD if I can avoid it

There’s a cluster on River Road near Rosemont station, and another cluster (Marriott, Renaissance, Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn) near the Cumberland station. Out of those options it mostly boils down to which loyalty program you’re in and who is marking up the marathon weekend how much.

Same here. Staying at the Westin, $700 all in with a flight from Los Angeles.
