Chicago Area Swim Coach

Does anyone have any good swim coach recommendations for the Chicago Area? I am not as interested in group workouts (ie. Masters swimming classes) as I am in someone helping me with my technique. I know the website for USA Masters swimming along with how to google swim coaches in the area, however I am looking for some personal recommendations on a technique coach.

Also, I have been to one of John Fitzpatricks clinics. Good info, however I am not sure if the Total Immersion swim method will help me as much since I am looking for a 55 minute IM swim time.

UIC’s swim coach, other college coaches in the area? Will college swim coaches teach essentially the same technique as a triathlon coach would minus the sighting? or do I need to seek a specific tri swim coach?

Do I need to do swim classes or can I just look up workouts online in order to swim fast? My plan is to get help with my technique about once a month and do the workouts by myself. Any suggestions?

Thanks

2 possibilities for you.

1-My old college team/roommate, Luke McGuire, now head swim coach at Fenwick High School in Oak Park. One of the best swim HS’s in IL year in year out. He could help you, but he is a straight-up swim coach who will make you a better swimmer overall.

2-Mike Norman of Chicago Endurance Sport also swam at Wisconsin, but a couple years older than us. He specializes in TRI coaching.

Best of luck.

does anyone know if a regular swim coach would be just as effective as a tri coach, minus the sighting technique?

try Multisports Madness in St. Charles at Delnor. Great triathlon club with triathlon minded coaches.

Keith Klebacha is great also. He is part of Well-fit in Chicago. He was also one of the trainers for the CNN Fit Nation.
