**As someone who knows most of the details of the situation I can assure you it was not a money issue but a bike fit issue. **
Zero wins? She won 70.3 Tasmania this year and won IM New Zealand this year while setting a course record. Maybe do some research?
And yes maybe she doesn’t attract the same fans as some but she has a whole horde of women that come up to her each race wanting to take photos while almost crying so I think she has a decent base.
out of interest why a mid season change.
If she’s that uncomfortable on it, she’s trying to salvage the season.
that is self evident, but its not like this is the first season on the bike.
i hate to say it , but this sounds more like something lionel would do, change the coach and bike in one go, mid season. i am sure there is a reason for if i just cant see it .
I think it’s the terse statement on instagram that raises more questions than answers and suggest some kind of falling out. Seems like that could have been avoided with a little more finessing - “this was the bike that propelled me to the course record at IM NZ, provided several beautiful bespoke paint jobs†etc etc etc
If you look closely she was actually on the tt version of the speedmax and not the tri version. The tt small has smaller dimensions that fit her more comfortably. As we have seen with Lionel canyon doesn’t want triathletes on tt bikes.
She is testing bikes at the moment but will have a fast one in London. You will just have to wait and see what it is……
Chelsea is able to go up, down, forward or back on the saddle.
Shes able to go up down forward or back on the bars.
It’s not the bike.
Ivan OGorman is the same one that fitted Lionel convincing him to change to the UCI Canyon before he saw the light and moved back. He’s the same person that fitted Taylor Knibb Mark 1 before she saw the light and got sorted out by Bottrill.

That is wrong. Lionel’s decisions were driven by questionable aero data. That’s it, that’s all.
Try talking facts
Also could be the end of his contract and he wants to play nice to sign another one? Lake placid wasn’t the fastest ride for him either was it? Thought I read he got a ton of extra watts on the tri bike.

While I agree you can move positions somewhat. The overall length and geometry of the bike can limit what you can do if you are at the very very bottom of the height requirement. Also a smaller bike is lower to the ground which also affects aero. By canyons own website she would not be buying the small canyon tri bike if she were to personally buy one because of her height.
The difference in overall aerodynamics between TT frames is absolutely minimal, especially compared to everything else. He went plenty fast on it in Oceanside. 2% up or down in his power would have more effect than the difference between most of the top brand frames out there.
that is self evident, but its not like this is the first season on the bike. She battled with getting comfortable on that bike right from the startTop marks for sticking with it and doing her very best to make it work (from early 2023). I bet Canyon dug out blind to help (as well as the snazzy paint jobs).
I find it hard to believe Canyon wouldn’t do everything in their power to make the fit work. Seems to me like it’s a stretch and grasping at straws to try and figure out why performance has been hit or miss (which honestly seems mental). But would look forward to her proving me wrong with killer bike splits.
She was spending a lot of time with Kate Courtney the pro mtbr. Wonder if she’ll be on a scott? Seems to work for Gentle. Total random guess.

Yes but that would suggest the homework was not done before signing a deal and it would have been better to part at end of last season that looks better for both sides than a mid season break up.
Anyway life is not always easy and I think both sides are happier now.

Talking with someone directly in the know with Lionel, the TT vs tri bike were not close (12-14 watts) when he tested them against each other.
I believe it’s a problem with shorter women and the tri bike. It was designed around Jan as an xl so it can’t be shrunk down to an xs without having to run 650b wheels. Its crazy that someone like Imogen symmonds who is close to 6 feet tall rides the same size frame as someone like Chelsea who is under 5’6â€.
Both mistakes and wrong assumptions from your side.
Frodeno rode Speedmax in size L.
Imogen is 178cm, Chelsea is 170cm, Katt is 165cm. All rode Canyon, how is that an excuse for bike not fitting Chelsea?
In an improbable case that the bike wasn’t fitting her, she shouldn’t have run for the money without checking the bike in the first place.
In a more probable case, Canyon had expectations around certain races or promo obligations, and she wanted out. She hasn’t had results since Kona 2022, and Canyon was impatient.

The testing he did was massively flawed. And proven as such when he went to a proper facility with actual experts. That also didn’t replicate identical positions. It was one fit on one and a different on the other, the frame will have been a tiny fraction of it. If you optimised both they would be remarkably similar except the Speedmax has storage etc built it. The TT has a slight weight advantage.
