Cheap rims + good hubs?

Along similar lines, but trying to avoid jacking the the “Edge” group buy thread …

Does anyone have experience and/or useful insight on buying lower grade carbon rims and replacing the hubs with a high-grade equivalent (say an 88/188 combo)? Based on limited tinkering with my stock rims and some late model 808 rims, the hubs seemed to make a world of difference - at least when subjected to free rotation. Does it seem plausible to make an attempt at (non-dimpled) Zipp performance for around $1k?

You can get that today from Elite. And, David is the man - man…

Oh, and those ARE Zipp rims, pre-dimple.

Good suggestion, with a POC to boot, but I was actually proposing (hold your laughter) a ballpark cost of $1k for the set. Like I said, cheap rims + good hubs. Rims so cheap, even Walmart wouldn’t carry them.

He rode cheap rims…

Poor bastard. Maybe his rims did come from Walmart after all …

Anyone else have input on this topic?
