Cheap hotels for IMCDA?

Well, a bit less than6 months out, Im starting to think about getting a hotel reserved. I dont want to be too far from the venue because I want to come back and watch the late finishers and drink beers in the stands.

Any suggestions?, price is sort of an issue, no 300 dollar hotels please, within 1 mile or so from the race start?

I know I can look it up but if anybody knows of anything off hand, that would be great. thanks!!!

If you explore rental properties (homes) it will be less expensive, more relaxing and provide full kitchen. In my view, this is the way to go.

You may save enough that a rental car makes a house 4 miles from start line a great find. The town is very easy to navigate.

I got in at about 108 on the hotel strip, reserved back in July though.
2 rooms on sat so I can have a room to myself to zen out. /avoid baby cryin/wifesnores

Brother, if you don’t have your reservations for in town yet, they are sold out. The resort will have rooms but very expensive. I made mine last year in early january and was in Hayden at the Holiday inn about 10 miles away, you will even bike by it. Traffic is not really an issue there or parking for that matter. I would make your reservations now though.

to clarify, I guess I dont really need to be too close because Im driving there.

but yes I agree, I was broke a year ago when I signed up for the race. Im gonna be reserving something early this week.

Im only really needing the night before the IM and the night of the IM as I will be camping the rest of the time.

Here’s where I’m staying. Cheapest you’ll find. $22 per night. http://www.wolflodgervcampground.com/

Bring a Tent and camp stove. They have hot showers.

ok, this brings up another question, I am taking about a week for this trip, driving on both ends of the race. Im going to yellowstone and glacier national parks on this trip and IMCDA will be somewhere in there.

what is it like to camp the night before an IM? I have ever done it.

“what is it like to camp the night before an IM? I have ever done it.”

I’ve camped plenty the night before races, including halfs (but not for an iron man) … It would be fine, especially if you have slept well Thu. & Friday and have a room for Sunday after the race. The problem the last week of June in the NW is it won’t get dark until 10 or almost 11. But at least with an Iron man all the bike stuff has already been put in place the day before. I think dealing with all the bike stuff in the a.m. while camping is a hassle.

I am sure there are all kinds of available and not expensive (under $100) rooms down the road toward Spokane. Not sure about in town though …

Bring warm stuff and be ready in case of rain. Last year’s IMCDA, it was raining, windy and about 48 with the wind chill when I crossed the finish line. I think the last place I would have wanted to go back to would have been a tent. It was the first IM I didn’t go back to the finish line at midnight. Then again, I was staying in Hayden ten miles away.

If you don’t find anything in CDA you may want to try Liberty Lake right on the Washington/Idaho border line. There are few hotels there. Very short and easy drive to CDA, and right on the Centenial trail. We stayed there in 2007 and had no problems getting to CDA, some biked to town. I also visited Spokane and was pleasently surprised if you have the time.
You definitly have to act fast.

In 2009 I stayed in Post Falls (Howard Johnson). It was fine for $69 per night.

Post falls was ~ a 10 minute drive into CDA (interstate).

The way I figure it- once my hotel is more that 1 mile away (i.e. no longer walking distance), there is no practical difference between a 5 minute drive and a 15 minute drive to race site.

Best of Luck, CDA is a beautiful race!

Good luck…This is very late to be "thinking " about getting a hotel, let alone one within a mile of the start/finish. While it’s easier than Ironman Canada (where even the “cheap $200- per night hotels” are all booked up 10 minutes after opening on the morning after the race), they still book quickly. You may try the “Budget Motel”, at about $100- a night and two miles from the start, they (at one time) did not take reservations a year in advance, so were sometimes easier to get in late. Best of luck!
