Cheap compression socks

i occasionally use compression socks for recovery after long rides/runs. not really sure if they actually speed recovery or not but i like the way they feel, so i’ll keep using them.
what i dont like is how expensive they are when marketed and sold by sports companies. i’ve seen ones marketed to older folks (or maybe diabetics?) that are fractions of the cost (like less than 10 bucks). anyone every try these? are they comprable?

ameswalker.com has pretty affordable options that do the trick for recovery. Not sure if they have anything for in-use training/racing

This is ST…everyone uses $100 compression socks because of the 0.00234287% increase in benefits. /pink

but seriously, I haven’t noticed any difference between a $15 pair of compression socks to some $50 pairs. I will say as a plug for the company, Swiftwick makes some pretty awesome, relatively inexpensive compression socks. Check em out.

I wear the $18 dress sock ones available at CVS when I’m at work, and they seem to provide quite a bit of compression and seem to be holding up really well and still providing very noticeable compression after about a year (I have 5 pairs so I have a pair for each day of the work week).

Buy Nike compression football socks at Dicks. 2 pair $15.00 and better compression than socks that cost $50.00 plus.

I have compression socks that range from the $8 DrLeonard’s variety up through some $90 Nordic brand that I can’t pronounce (and didn’t buy) - plus several brands in between. In terms of compression quality, the cheap versions provide just as much (if not more) support than most brand name versions.

The one obvious distinction is that the higher end products tend to be a bit more comfortable (namely, smooth and breathable) based on the materials they use. Cheaper versions tend to be itchy and have raised seams - neither of which are a deal breaker.

For me, compression is compression so I use whichever pair happens to be at the top of my sock drawer that day.

I can guarantee you that not all compression socks are made equal. One key besides quality and how long the sock will last is find the mmHg and make sure it the compression you are looking for.

There’s even a $3 coupon for the Futuro brand. I think there was a better coupon before though… $5 or $10 off.

Ive ran a 1/2 marathon in ameswalker socks. I also run in them for every run workout. You probably need to replace them every 6-12months. I be saving for compressport socks this year.

X2 Ames Walker I like the coolmax. I also have some of their compression tights that have the feet and they feel great after a long session. The tights are 20-30 I like the 20-30 socks but they do offer 30-40 as well. Some of the best prices for compression socks I have seen.

If you know anyone that works in a hospital, ask them to get you some there…FREE!

yikes. that sounds enough like theft that i hope i’m missing some fine, exculpatory details.

I had the same questions as you a few months back. $60 for some compression sock on trisports or $12.99 socks at CVS. I went with the CVS socks (Futuro Restoring Dress Socks).

The two socks do the same exact thing. Both have the same compression and will give you the same results. No difference in benefits. The only people who will not agree with this are those who sell (or use) the $60 socks.

I have been using the Futuro socks for 7-8 months now and they are still going good but you can see a few strands are starting to break, but the sock still has the compression. I have put them in the wash a few times as well. I probably would replace the socks once a year. I am not sure how long the $60 socks can last, but I’m pretty sure they wont last for years without the same wear and tear.

At the end of the day, I just dont see how $60 socks can justify the premium price. You can buy 4 pairs of Futuros or one pair of $60 socks.

Repost for silliness.
