Didn’t see a thread for the race.
Nice to see Jackson Laundry looking back into form. Ari Klau, wow. He might have a podium here. But probably too early to tell.
Just a reminder this was a Time Trial Start for the pros so leaderboard is Dynamic!
Based on the fact that they canceled the swim a couple of days ago. It’s insane to me that they wouldn’t have the pro’s do a Run, Bike, Run.
Ari picking up the pace. I think he’s in third behind Sam Long and Appleton. Laundry is fading.
Long and Appo dropped off the tracker. I’m assuming a chip glitch.
They’re back.
It’s a TT start so the times populate as they pass. Sam started late.
Ari was passed by McElroy who is flying
Yeah it’s confusing since Sam started late.
I assume he wasn’t the first across the line. Did they know enough to put up the tape as he finished? Seemed like this trip was all about getting a win for the sponsors so kind of annoying if you don’t get the pic breaking the tape at the finish.
SO do we know any results of this race yet? I can’t seem to find anything on my MacBook Air…
Top 5
Sam Long
Matt McElroy
Jason West
Sam Appleton
Ari Klau
In the last 10 years when a swim was canceled when have they done a RBR for the pros at an IM? Never heard of it but curious if they would have that protocol stashed away along with a way to avoid an even deeper delay in the last AGer start. TT starts are hell on the AGers (IMs paying customers)
Dont know about recently, but for sure Eric is right in that at some point it was standard procedure to add a beginning run to kick off cancelled swim races. So for a half they could add a 5k or so and then do a 10 miler at the end. I do recall they sometimes just added the full run, so 5k and then the usual half marathon…
But honestly the run doesnt break up the races as much as the swim does, just changes who is in the huge lead group. Everyone can run a fast 5k, while some are pacing and others are drilling it to be in the lead group
Thanks for the results, do we know any splits? I imagine with this format they all had to drill both events, not knowing where you really are at anytime in the race. Unless you start last and pass everyone I suppose.
Im mostly talking about in a situation like this where they did it days in advance…
I mean. They have a rolling start already. I honestly dont know this but is it a 15 sec gap like the pro’s or do they do grouping like the swim start… ( 3 at a time )
Anyone know how they do the age group roll out?
It’s a TT start by number. So you’d have to do a run first then get all the Pros out onto the bike then start the AG roll.
Could it be done, absolutely. Should it be thrown together on the fly 2 days before the race fuck no.
Transition is packed when this happens with the AGers so the risk to a pro having is race screwed in transition by the mob doesn’t seem like much of a win.
In past races that I’ve done with a canceled swim, the rolling bike start has been in bib order (which is why I make a point of checking in as early as feasible). They bring one rack at a time to the bike start and start one athlete at a time (using the same countdown beeps as the swim).
Someone on Reddit mentioned that since the swim was canceled before check-in started, for this race they assigned bib numbers based on estimated bike finish time, which they asked during check-in.
