currently ride a road bike, bianchi corse sl 2001, and want to make more tri specific. just buy clip ons? other suggestions?
I ride a Giant TCR road bike with clip-ons. I went to a professional fitter to get my fit sorted with the bars, which made a huge difference, and cost far less than the 2 skinny bits of carbon.

I have a Specialized Transition Multi which is essentially a cross between road and tri. I have clip-ons and a Fast Forward seat post and it works great for me.
I too ride a road bike. I have the clip-on aero-bars, plus have moved the saddle forward, replaced the original stem with a shorty stem, and lowered the front end. Tighten up the cockpit, as it were. Seems to be working for me so far.
