Chamois creme during Tri?

I’m a big fan of chamois creme when I ride during training. Do people use it during a race? I’m wondering how it works after the swim?

Thanks

I use it during races. I’ve never tried a race without it, but I never have chafing issues. It also helps wake you up in the morning!

As Slowman pointed out in his article on this site (main page) it does tend to rinse out during the swim so using more is one approach to that problem.

I have switched to using the much thicker SportSlick lubricant in place of chamois cream during a race since its heavier viscosity or thickness makes it stay in place better inside your tri shorts and inside your wetsuit throughout the swim.

SportSlick is very thick, almost the consistency of silicone caulking, so the application is a trifle trickier. I just squeeze a gob onto the pad of my tri shorts before pulling them up. It stays put during the swim and provides excellent protection from chafing and good lubrication on the bike.

X2 on the sport slick.

I apply a little more directly. A decent supply on right index finger, smear liberally over taint, wash hands.

I also put a good swath of this on my wrists, ankles and back of neck. It is pretty waterproof and helps get the wetsuit off faster. The back of the neck is for the chaffing that I get from my older yet servicable QR UltraFull.

The stuff in my shorts will survive the swim and provide enough protection for the bike.

I thought it was well known that, back in the day (like, the REALLY early days of multisport) guys would get away with biking in unpadded Speedos partially by having a gob of vaseline (a popular chamois cream of that era) stuck under the nose of the saddle. So one could reach down during the bike to apply as needed.

Same theory as the lunatics who would stick their unwrapped powerbars on their stem and top tube for convenience.

x3 on the Sportslick.

In my HIM I applied a good glob in T1. Cost me about 10 seconds.

Might want to also try Lantiseptic. Never knew heard of it before trying some cycling ultras, where every used it. Very thick and water proof.
