I have always used Docs chamois cream for all my rides and I love it, but it and others I have tried on race day are mostly washes away after the swim
any thoughts?

Body Glide
.
The old reliable – A + D Ointment
.
bag balm. works wonders.
I’ve never had dznuts wash off from the swim- although all my swims are usually wetsuit which probably changes everything. Although I learned the hard way that dumping cups of ice down your shorts in an attempt to cool off washes it away in a hurry
Brave Soldier. Used for the past 3 IMs.
The Skin Sake Athletic formula does not wash off with sweat and water.
Assos Chamois Creme
.
Vaseline
.
x2. and its cheap
If it washes off in the swim, you’re using too much or your wetsuit isn’t working anymore.
No vaseline as I find it can damage the fabric.
Base coat of Body Glide + DZ/Assos/Doc’s works fine for me.
(is your undercarriage due for a shave?)
Look up Squirt Barrier Balm. It doesn’t take much, and it survived the swim quite well for me in Boulder. They make a great wax based chain lubricant as well.
Bag Balm or Vaseline definitely wont wash off during the swim, they are also very difficult/impossible to wash out of your shorts. As someone else said, a base layer of body glide or similar (I like squirrel’s nut butter) and then a quality chamois cream and you should be good to go. Apply the chamois cream to the chamois pad in your tri shorts also, not just on the skin.
No one uses Chamois Butt’r?
Vaseline
+3. Never had an issue washing it out of my shorts.
Vaseline gets my vote.
Also before a long bike I put a small clump of Vaseline under the saddle just in-case anything starts to chafe on bike. Not had to use it yet but buys me a little peace of mind. Especially after a salty swim.
Thanks for the tip on this stuff…I have never heard of it.
have you tried their other products, such as brave shave?
I have not, probably need to as I really like the friction stuff.
Chamois Butt’r. I’ve used the ‘women’s’ and regular, they both work great and survive the swim.
I have always used Assos. Its great!
