Chamois Cream Shootout Finished

Assos is my backup if/when my Chamois butter is gone. I find Assos to be too “pasty” while Chamois butter is more along the lines of a lotion. A tablespoon on the pad and then another tablespoon applied directly to the area and I’m golden up to 215 miles (my long ride of the year).

Never tried elite ozone…might have to give that a shot.

I used to like Chamois Butter because of the price and the fact that a lot of the chairty rides and races the wife and I participated in would give out 2-4 sample packets in each bag of swag. The samples would htne be squeezed into the full size container which meant that we effectively only had to purchase Chamois butter once a year or so. On a whim, I opted to give the Assos Chamois creme a try even though it is nearly twice the price at the LBS. Well I am a convert and so is the wife - this stuff is sort of like addictive drugs - once you start using it is difficult to stop - so now we end up buying two containers instead of one!

I thought I once read some comments that the Assos is simply some form of facial (Ponds)/skin moisturizer product that has menthol or camphor added to provide that cool, soothing feeling. While doing our weekly shopping at the grocery store last week, I even spent a few minutes examining contaniers and tubes of various products to see if any had a similar look/smell/feel as the Assos. I saw serveral things that came in the same size and style of container but when it came to ingredients, none of them were even remotely similar and some even had pretoleum distilates in them. So, in consideration of the fact that a lot of things in the bike industry are simply relabeled versions of other products - e.g. grease from Park Tool and Phil Wood is simply trailer bearing grease which is available at Home Depot for about half the price of the name brands at the LBS - anybody have any insights as to what Assos might be derived from?

Did you ponder testing Born Cyclist Creme? That is one of the most popular in Europe. I love the stuff…
