Challenge Roth or Ironman Regensburg

Thinking about doing one of these as a destination race/vacation in 2013. Both seem to be great races from what I’ve read. If someone put a gun to your head and made you pick one, which would you choose and why?

Roth. Too many good things said about it to not go.

couple of quick differences –

Regensburg was a non-wetsuit swim 2 years ago… if that worries you at all. Roth also is a wave start on the swim, always nice if you don’t like water polo or rugby.

I’m doing Roth next year and looking forward to the crowds/atmosphere. Also like the Challenge rules which allow you to listen to music on the run – I took advantage of that this year at Challenge Copenhagen.

Now if the good Danes will only send me my missing left Shimano bike shoe and award, I’ll be very very happy with their race organization.

I did Roth in 2009 and IM Germany this year. I have not done Regensburg but if I had the choice I would go back to Roth in a second.
An incredible race. The atmosphere is electric, the noodle party is fantastic with introducing all the top pros with heavy loud trance music blasting. I wanted to leave the dinner and start the swim right there.

I will race in Europe again some day and it will either be a return visit to Roth or a new destination like Copenhagen.

I’d prefer a wetsuit swim but it’s not a deal breaker. I’m a competent and fast enough swimmer that I’m okay with a non-wetsuit swim if that were the case.

I didn’t know about the music thing. That’s certainly intriguing.
