Challenge Roth Finalizes Elite Field

15 mins back at latest timecheck.

I guess both I (and Daniel himself) underestimated how tired Bækkegaard is after IMDE. He is 8 mins behind Schomburg now :frowning:

Daniel did part of the marathon, like 20+km
Jonas didn’t finish the bike, clearly he has a set of fresher legs!

getting out of the swim 10+ mins back he just can’t be competitive.

Bartlett in #3 gradually catching Siffert (#2). Thek (in #4) tracking Bartlett (started 49 seconds behind exiting T2) 90+ seconds back. Both will take Siffert well before half way (Siffert is running at 3:15 marathon pace).
Philipp ran 38 minutes for her first 10km.

Laidlow went through half way in 1:18:34 (so sub-2:40 marathon pace). He went 2:42 in Nice, but off a harder, longer bike.
Have to think Schomburg will ‘fade’ after such a hard bike plus lack of long course experience.
Funk rode really well in that last hour, as did Luis.
Chance of Luis being able to run 26 miles at even pace minimal.

Epic stuff…Sam takes the lead looking great and Vincent looks like he is going to podium.

Hanson has one quarter of the run to go. He is on pace for a 2:25 marathon - I cannot believe my own arithmetic. Has averaged 3:25 per km.

I’m happy for him. I hope his post race recovery is great and he’s truly back.

Very excited for Luis as well.

They said they’ve confirmed over 300,000 people are cheering on the course. That’s amazing! Unbelievable.

Hanson has suddenly slowed, with 9km to go.
The only ‘battle’ in the men’s race is for #7: a domestic Danish: Baekkegaard v Petersen.
Edit: so wrong, courtesy of a Luis boom.
Luis confounds me (edit; until he doesn’t).
Thek goes into #3, but plenty of miles to go.

Wouldn’t have picked Vincent on the podium, that’s pretty good

Looks like Laidlow is gonna go Sub7:30? What an amazing come-back! Love it - and no wetsuit

Spoke too soon

Vinny is toast

Looks like Bartlett, having been passed by Thek, will be caught by Siffert for #3 on the podium.
Philipp on for about a 2:45 marathon.

Amazing, I was watching the 1st 2/3rds of the bike and it seemed like Schomburg was solo out front w a chasing SL 2nd ~2:30 back and then a “group” of 8-9 athletes all within about 13s of each other a 2 mins back of SL. So it’ll be curious to see what RR data looks like (published to media within 48 hours we think?).

Their tracker only tracks the top 25, and when you do the individual person tracker, their position is never shows up, so either I’m missing where that shows up, but I see Skipper “ran” into 14th.

Challenge Roth excels! The tracker is, however, truly a step below par.
Skipper left T2 in #24 (the bike finish tracker list included a couple of amateurs on their first lap).
