Ditlev had to race Frankfurt to KQ after his illness delayed his 2026 season (was on the Texas start list and Frankfurt would’ve been the second IM in an IM Pro Series campaign). Which is why he didn’t sign up to Roth when Felix was establishing Roth’s elite start list - Roth only 7 days after Frankfurt.
But with the run on Sunday only being 13 miles, he’ll be fine to race Roth (of which he’s a three time winner in full distance best ever times).

Schomburg must be kicking himself for choosing Roth rather than Frankfurt (and Roth).
Excellent decision from the 2024 winner, who also happens to be the 2022 and 2023 winner.
I’ve tabulated the times I suggested when LCB entered the house.

ETA: Thorsten has updated his seedings. He uses 5 minutes for T1+T2 and doesn’t reckon LCB’s bike is as strong as I do.
The prediction challenge is that LCB has no recent full distance competitive races/finishes and Lanzarote is not the most representative course on which to build.
LCB’s running last year in the T100s suggested she’d stepped up and her ride in Kona was way faster than Matthews.

based what we have seen in kona and Marbella I have no doubt Lucy can go sub 2.50 if she really wants. the question is more is she already at the level after her operation?

btw is there actually a sub 8 bonus ?
it was 100 000$ for the guys 30 years ago which would be roughly 200 000$ now
I recall there was some chat that Rodriquez (is he now clear to compete? after his 2 year ban) had been given a 2024 Roth start/contract with a decent bonus for breaking 2:30 for the run. Overtaken by events (ADRV) and eventually by Messias’ 2:26 last year.
After Hamburg last year and Philipp’s 8:03 (with a 6:30 combined T1+T2 time) I imagine Felix would be keen to incentivise Philipp and Matthews to go for sub-8 in the rematch. I guess that’ll have been transferred to LCB’s deal.
Non-wetsuit swim (and very likely for amateurs too - water temperature is >27oC).

At the risk of boasting, I’m an age group winner from a few years back and therefore probably biased, but to me Roth is the best race in the world. It’s fantastic to see such a strong field. If weather conditions are favourable then I genuinely think we could see new world best times for both men and women. Can’t wait.

I predict KB sub 2.30 to overtake the Bogen, Laidlow and Ditlevs on the run.

It’s a nice appearance fee and he and LCB hardly raced this year so legs are still fresh!

Do you think he gets a fee this late in the process? Isnt this just athletes asking for a slot late? From an organizer standpoint it kind of sucks as you can not build that much hype in 3 days!

Dont think he gets much if anything joining this late do you? I think they race for free having not had time to help with promotion etc. so they just asked nicely for a slot.
He has zero chance of winning judging by Frankfurt form
I know Frankfurt was short, my question is, he looked like shit on sunday. Well swim was good, but his normal weapon the bike looked horrible, so what does he hope to gain here in Roth this week?
Unless there was some mechanial/illness etc. I dont see anyway he can challenge, so just lots of fatigue really?
He has to find his usual bike power to go with Bogen/Laidlow etc.

His agent would have asked for one I am sure. He has won this race twice as well. I do agree with you that it wouldn’t be as generous as what LCB might have been offered

He would have to let us know but I don’t think Frankfurt situation was ideal for him that single day due to these factors.

He had to take minimum risks to make sure he got the kona slot unlike Brock hoel who has house money in hand with a slot already.
He didn’t get to see where his run is at the 5-8 hours mark he only got to test at the 3:45-5 hour mark so he might of planned for a 8 hour day to test that now.
Not sure about your self but usually when you last race was a blow up like his nice 2025 the next one does hold back some risk and maybe he left a lot on the table worrying about hitting a wall again. But more confident for the next one.
