Cervelo Warranty Question

So I agreed to buy a P2 that someone bought during the “share the ride” promo, but then decided he’s not so interested in the bike anymore. The bike has never left the bike shop and is not even assembled yet. My question is if there is a way to make me the official first owner of the bike with rights to the warranty. Could the bike shop refund my buddy the purchase price and then charge me for it and be within Cervelo’s rules? I’m still going to buy the bike, but I’d really like the warranty if I can get it.

I’d have the bike shop call cervelo and ask. Normally you need the serial number off the bike though so are you sure he already registered it? Its not registered to an owner until the owner registers it online so they need the bike for that.

No, he hasn’t registered it. So all I have to do is be the one to register it and I’m fine? Will i need a receipt or any paperwork from the LBS with my name on it if I ever need to act on the warranty?

They would just refund him the money and then have you buy it. Then you will enter your information online with the bike serial number and I believe purchase store and purchase price. You need to keep the receipt for warranty work. But besides that you’re all set. Honestly if the bike shop doesn’t want to rerun the transaction as long as the other buyer has the receipt and its not registered i’m not sure why you couldn’t register it yourself. But the proper way would be to have them return it and you repurchase it just make sure you don’t have future issues.

If he bought it then the bike shop had to register the bike when they rang up the purchase.

It is most likely already registered in his name and he probably doesn’t even know it.

Cervelo will not honor a warranty claim thru you if you purchase it from him without him going back to the shop with the issue in the future.

I know this to be true because I did the exact same thing and have already run thru all the scenarios with the shop and Cervelo.

Not sure the warranty was worth a $1000…but not sure what I ended up with was worth $1800 either.

This is not true. I have bought 5ish Cervelos new and the multiple shops I have bought them from have NEVER entered the warranty information in for me.

The share the ride deal was not a typical sale and had specific order entry requirements.

At least that is the BS the shop and Cervelo is feeding me.

Not BS. I bought my S5 on the share the ride program, and the shop registered the bike on line. The email from Cervelo was in my inbox when I got home from the shop.

Well I’m curious what all the people who posted requests for others to hook up with and go in together for the StR program did about this. Did each buyer get access to the warranty or were both bikes registered to the same person?

I’m not 100% sure how Cervelo works but usually bike companies look for an original receipt from the bike shop to confirm original purchaser. So if you are paying the bike shop for the bike then you should be OK - if you are paying the original purchaser then maybe not.

When I bought my S2 on the share the ride program the lbs and I had to fill in a form. That form included my name and address and the serial number of the bike. The other person who was the other half of share the ride also had their name, address and serial number on the form. That paper form was then sent to Cervelo. I still went online when I got home to register but I figure that Cervelo already had my name, address and associated bike serial number.

I’d call/email Cervelo.

I would simply contact Cervelo directly and explain. My experience with them is they have great customer service.
