Cervelo Tri and Road bike riders, bike fit gurus, a question

Do you ride the same frame size in both your tri bike and your road bike? Also Cervelo’s sizing, is it based on the C-C seat tube? I’m wondering because I have a P2C and thinking of maybe a Cervelo road bike and wondering what size I’ll have to go with. My inseam 86.5*.65 puts me at a 56cm frame, but currently I’m riding a 54 P2C and it fits like a glove. Any thoughts?

So no one rides both a Cervelo road and tri bike? Sweet.

Cervelo has always claimed that they size their tri and road bikes the exact same. However, you could be on the cusp and comfortably ride two sizes.

It seems almost everybody on ST will automatically tell you to go to the smaller tri bike frame, but when you really think about it, I’d only be more inclined to go to the smaller frame if you’re riding slack. I’m 5’9" and by Cervelo’s own website size recommendations it puts me on the cusp between a 54 and 51 size frame. My old 54 cm P2K was a good fit for me if riding steep. In the slack position my effective top tube was then too long and I woud have only then needed the smaller 51 cm frame.

I have both. I ride a 54 cm Soloist Carbon Sl (SLC-SL) and a 51 cm P3C. I was foremrly on a 51 cm R2.5 and Soloist Team but decided to bump up one size on the road bike for better reach and a less compact fit. The 54 cm in the road bike fits me much better than the 51 cm road bike did. The 51 cm P3C is spot on. I formerly rode a 53 cm P3SL before that bike became extinct.

For the most part rider use the same size Cervelo road bike as tri bike- for the most part…

Jens Voigt on team CSC rides a 58 cm road bike, either R3, R3SL or Soloist Carbon and he also rides a 58 cm P3C time trial bike. However, Fabian Cancellara, World Time Trial Champion and also Team CSC member, uses a 58 cm road bike (Soloist Carbon usually) and only a *54 cm *P3C.

It is the exception rather than the rule for frame sizes to diverge this much. As I say, for the most part if your are on a 54 cm Cervelo P3C, P2C, P2SL you are likely on a 54 cm R3, R3SL, Soloist Team, RS, Soloist Carbon or SLC-SL.

I hope that helps…

Thanks Tom, I figured on the road bike that I’d either be on a 56 or 54 (the same size as my P2C). I got sized at InsideOut Sports for the 54cm P2C (I have an 86.5cm inseam 34" for those of you not into the metric system) and like I said it fits like a glove, though I do have a good amount of spacer stack. While getting fit I was ready to go to a 56 but we decided that the 54 fit me well. So I’m assuming that I’d roll on a 54cm Soloist or R3
