Cervelo Soloist sizing.. stepping down a size?

Curious question, I like riding in a more slack position Road/TT/Tri. I’m of thinking about getting a Cervelo S1 in a 51cm for a shorter top tube, but I would normally ride a 54cm since I stand 5’9 and that’s usually the size road frame I ride. My question is has anyone else stepped down a size on the Cervelo S1 or the carbon model and been happy they did? Thanks

Figure out the stack and reach of the 54 you normally ride and compare it to the stack and reach of the Soloist on the Cervelo website. That will tell you all you need to know…

I normally ride a 54cm road bike with a 54cm -55cm TT and just adjust with the stem length, I’m just curious if anyone has stepped down a size on the Soloist and was happy with it. I know some Pro riders will move one frame size down have a longer stem.

I am 5’9", fairly normal in proportions of torso, arm length and inseam. I ride a 2008 54" P3C and a 2008 54" Soloist Carbon. FYIW, both fit me fine.

I just went thru this process, but I am a little shorter, YMMV.

I have been riding a 54 trek 5200 for years but went with a 51 S3, Olympic Rings   after spending about an hour on the trainer with a 51 S1.

For reference my trek top tube length is 545, the 54 would have never worked for me, to big. My measurements on as defined by competetive cyclist are below:
Measurements

Inseam: 29.50
Trunk: 23.75
Forearm: 14.5
Arm: 24.5
Thigh: 24
Lower Leg: 20.5
Sternal Notch: 53.25
Total Body Height: 67.25

I have a 51 and I wish I had a smaller one for TT. I too like riding slack. I will put this back to a road set-up this spring, cuz it’s just a tad too big for TT (for me). I love this bike tho…

Thanks for the input… think I’ll try to test ride a 51cm this weekend there’s a couple of LBS around here that carry Cervelo so one of them is bound to have a 51cm

I stepped down from 56 to 54, but changed saddle (Selle SMP) and my pedal/shoe combo to achieve this. I went for a DMT Speedplay-specific sole with my Speedplay Zeros - stack height is 8mm and the DMT sole is very thin. I basically had to lower my saddle height by 15mm so it was easy stepping down a size. I now don’t have any spacers and a 110mm stem. Good, aero position.

My tri bikes are 54 and my old road bike was 54. My Soloistis 51 (I am 5’9.75"). I do not feel any difference except:

When I ride along someone and they are higher and you fell kinda like your on a child’s bike then.

I went from a 54cm Trek 2100 to a 52cm Allez pro and now ride a 51cm S2. Like Tom A. posted, I compared stack & reach and it is spot on with my Allez. I’m 67.75 and also ride a 51cm P2C.
