Cervelo s5, s3? Specialized Venge Vias Expert Disc?

Looking to buy a road bike but not sure which one of these to go with. I like the look of these 3 with the thick bars & aero look. Any recommendations on these or perhaps others that look similar?

S5 is definitely fast and the Venge is the fastest bike at low yaw angles. The one knock against the Venge is weight. It tends to be kinda porky at nearly 18 lbs. The S3 disc gets good reviews, but 7000$ for a mid-range bike with Ultegta Ui2 is ridiculous.

It sounds like you are leaning toward a disc bike. The new Giant Propel come in a range of options and they are generally one of the better bang for the buck companies.

I personally would choose a Madone 9. Aero, light AND comfortable. The price also starts at just expensive (4000$) with deep, wide, tubeless wheels and Ultegra

After being a long term s -works tarmac owner ( sl3,sl4 and 5) I made the switch over to an S5, I can honestly say it’s the best bike I’ve ridden to date, it climbs well fast on the flat and so confidence inspiring going downhill fast

I test rode both the s3 disc and the venge disc. Personally, I loved riding the venge disc but they are both great bikes. I just felt the venge was effortless to ride compared to other bikes.

I’d take a look at the fit coordinates. These bikes fit a bit differently.

The S3 is rather short reached for an aero bike. S5 fairly long and low. Venge is longer and low but comes standard with rising handlebars.

Need to find a shop in NJ that sells all these.

I would add that I travel with my s5 and it fits in a bike box Alan ,and having built several vias I wouldn’t fancy packing it.

I have both the S5 and the S3disc and whenever I’m riding in dry weather I pick the S5. The S3disc is my go-to rainy weather bike, but that is primarily because of the disc brakes are superior in that regard. The S5 is awesome, and I have ridden that bike in all kind of terrain from the steepest alpine climbs and descends to flat-and-fast here in Denmark where I live.

Im really starting to lean toward the s5. I’ve been to checkout Trek, Giant, etc. I just really love the look the bikes i mentioned have. Ill mostly be doing the riding in NJ.

The Specialized website has a link to a Retul app where you put in some measurements from your current bike and it provides stem/spaced/Handel bar options to achieve the same fit on the Venge. Then you order the correct parts with the frame. I noticed that their recommendation tends to err on the side of short and low, but it is a nice feature.

Do you want to clip on aero bars ? Only the venge will do that.

+1 on build ease and maintenance. Buddy owns a shop and bought one of the first Vias. Took less than a year for him to sell it for something easier to work on and he has a team of mechanics. BUT–it is a sweet looking bike and he did notice the snap it offered.

Why an aero road bike?

Im the type if person that likes different and unique. I like the shape and design of the bikes i mentioned. I may go used to save money depending on the bike.

What size frame are you looking for?

Im 5’7 with a 31 inch inseam so i would say 54cm?

The S5 in the 54cm size is probably too long for you.

I have yet to find a shop in NJ who carries cervelo.

I’m riding a 2010 S2 and am in the market for a new bike. Love the S2 so immediately went to look at the new S3 disc…but I just can’t get past the price - $7,700 for a Ultegra Di2 disc bike. I think specking the ENVE SES 3.4 wheelset was stupid! You can put a real nice $1,500 wheelset on this bike and build it easily for ~$6,200…much less if you actually shop around. This is one when you’re better off building from the frame up.

I have the older S5 and the new R5. Now the S5 has chunky tubes it’s not that different from the R5 and the R5 is very light and handles very well. Both are great bikes and pack well.

Check out strictly bikes in Fort Lee NJ if you’re in the northern side. They have a very wide selection of high end bikes.
