I am looking at a 2021 11speed Cervelo S5 disc- has a few cosmetic dings (one on hangar, one scratch on frame, one on rear fork), but doesn’t seem like anything too big. Dura Ace di2, and 4eee dual sided power meter enve 5.6 wheels (think that is standard on 2021 models).
I looked for comparable prices but they are hard to find- and did blue book also. Is 8400 reasonable (plus tax)? Anything I should be concerned about- buying this sight unseen. I ride a 51P3 (165 crank arm), and this is a 51 but 172.5 crankarm.
(I like riding bikes, I am not a bike mechanic and have never built a bike up from scratch). I have only bought my bikes new-
The Pro’s Closet is selling a 2019 SRAM Red S5 for $9100, so your price is in the ballpark of what is fair (though it still seems crazy). I would check that PayPal will cover the transaction so you aren’t stuck if something goes wrong with the transaction.
Are you sure it will fit you? That is a lot to spend if you aren’t sure. The S5 and a P3 are two different bikes. The S5 has a lower stack than an s / r series. If the fork steerer has been cut to slam the stem it could be too low for you.
For that price I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have them have a bike shop go over it to ensure there is nothing glaringly wrong, esp if you’re buying it sight unseen. Also x2 for making sure it fits, just buying a 51 and calling it good is a recipe for disaster
-The other poster’s recommendation of asking for a bike shop to take a look for you is an excellent recommendation. The shop will be the verification step that the bike is actually real. You could even ask that the same shop pack and ship the bike for you (you pay the shop for the work - it means verification, plus a good packing job).
-Is the sale through slowtwitch? And has the seller sold stuff on here before? If so, that is a huge validation.
As for the bike itself, that is a decent price for a nice bike in a market where finding bikes is challenging.
