Cervelo Rear Skewer / Trainer

Is there a compatibility issue between the rear skewer on my 2002 p2k and kurt kinetic trainers?

just wanted to make sure before i bought the trainer.

Thanks!

It’s not the bike but rather the wheel that matters there. I don’t know anything about the skewer those wheels choose. HOWEVER, every shop sells a $10 (or $15 in the Bay Area) heavy trainer-friendly skewer you sub in there.

If it’s the Ritchey Skewers on your P2K (I have a 2002 Prodigy) they will fit most trainer’s okay but not great. But as pointed out you can buy one of those nice steel skewers for cheap that will fit any trainer.

You don’t want to scratch up a nice skewer in your trainer anyway. I switch in an old Campy skewer I had before I put my bike in the trainer (also a Kurt Kinetic). Just get a cheap skewer. You don’t even have to take the wheel off to switch them.

A Campy skewer!!! Horrors. I always use a Shimano skewer. Shimano rules!

Yes I think there is. The lever is a little to fat to fit properly it the notch. My p-3 and the wives p-2k both had the problem. It ended up wearing a little notch in to the wives skewer, not a bad mind you,so when I put my P-3 on the trainer I use a old quick release I had laying on the bench.

I’ll just wait for Record10Ti to explain to you why the Campy skewers are so superior and the Shimano skewers are no better than rubber bands and scotch tape

My kurt kinetic came with a separate skewer that works great, the skewer with my cervelo didnt work
.

Same deal with the CT… they ship it with a skewer that has a round, tapered end for a positive fit. Hmm… almost sounds phallic.

Yes, there very likely may be, but it is NOT the skewer.

I have an '02 P2K frame (my own components) and with my trainer (a performance '02 adjustable fluid resistance model), the skewer support (the large cast piece on the trainer that supports the bike) is fairly beefy.

When I put my bike on the trainer, there was not enough space between the skewer support and the rear der., given my rear wheel position (quite close to the frame). Initially I did not notice this, so the trainer skewer support pressed on the rear der. so much that the der. hangar was bent (very slightly, but noticable, and it affected shifting so I had to carefully re-align it).

So, with the P2K, this is definitely a concern with certain trainers, with certain rear der.'s and certain rear wheel positions. I would check this out first, before you buy.

This is unbelievable.
Now someone is worried about scratching their skewers? christ on an bike, this is getting out of control. Will somebody please educate these people that scratches wont affect their ever so fragile bike?? and if your worries about the scratch I will buy the “damaged” skewer and sell it on ebay for $10.
Is there a voice of reason out there?

Voice of reason right here… I ride my Colnago C-40, w/ mostly Record, in the driving rain. No pads/cushions on it when on the car bike rack either.
