Any recommendations for a chain catcher for p5x? I seem to drop the chain (narrow wide chainring) every race. To make my own custom catcher, I am guessing at least 20 hours in the garage (I’m slow at fabricating) in addition to all the time thinking about it. I’ve already modified and tried to use a wolftooth lone-wolf chain guide but it didn’t work. It needed modification because it was designed for a p5, not the p5x. Also, I’ve a 56t chainring and I think most of the chain catchers are intended for smaller gravel chain rings.
I thought the p5 and p5x use the same front derailleur hanger, therefore it should be compatible…
You do need to be able to go high enough for a 56t, therefore indeed it should be designed for it rather than for gravel or more common (smaller) road chainrings. Wolftooth has an option for large chainrings and direct cervelo mount (I haven’t tested it), but there are also many options that mount to the hanger directly and should work (such as aerocoach, drag2zero, fastTT, …)
Thx! I’ll try one of those… if I can find the original front derailleur hanger. I had tried to use the wolftooth direct mount p5 version. But the frame mounting point for the derailleur hanger is different on the p5x than the p5 frame which is why I had to modify the WT catcher.
A cervelo retailer or cervelo’s own support should be able to locate one otherwise. It’s called fdm-0e0 on the p5 or px, again I’m not sure it was the same back in the p5x, but should be about 30usd
jcbesse - Thx for the suggestion. I contacted cervelo and they confirmed that no other derailleur mount other than the original FDM-P5X will fit correctly. I belive them because of what I also saw - the direct-mount wolftooth cervelo p5 hanger sat at a skewed angle when I attempted to install it on my p5x so I had to grind down the back mounting face of the WT to correct for the angle difference.
