Just purchased a brand new cervelo p5 with etap and hydraulic braking. Most beautiful thing Ive ever seen. Trying to leave my trusty p2 behind, but I can not for the life of me get comfortable on the p5. Bike shop is telling me there is a lot less room for fitting in the cockpit. I having increased pressure on my elbows which is causing me to increase my grip on my which is in turn causing crazy pain in my neck and traps. Almost to the point that I can’t remain in arrow for more than about 10 minutes without really hating myself. Any suggestion? Would hate to have to sell this thing brand new considering I just dropped 9500 on the bike and then another 2K on a power meter, garmin, and rocket launchers.

Did you not get fit prior to buying this? P5 vs P2 are different beasts…
had a quick fit. Went to nationals in Omaha and on a whim purchased the bike and didnt have the time for full on custom, computer gen fit. The owner did however do a basic fit. Had similar issues on the trainer but was hoping I could work through them the more I rode.
Can’t believe it is not possible to get exactly the same position on the p5 as on your old p2.
the p2 and p5 are actually extremely similar bike. While the front end is different, when it comes time to fit…a good fitter should not have much problem in most case to reproduce the p2 fit on the p5. Yes, the older p2 carbon had a bit of a different geometry but that should not be much of a issue.
so my advice, simply get a proper fit…bring both bike and a good bike fitter will be able to help you or at least determine 100% if the p5 is problematic to replicate the p2.
what i will see more often is the need for different extension on the p5 to accommodate someones personal preference.
I was thinking the same thing. Pretty much why i was determined to buy the bike and make it work. Apparently I was wrong. Something about the cockpit having a lot less adjustability.
Could be the disc brakes. Have you asked your bike shop if they can convert to rim brakes?
The brakes are rim hydraulic brakes now
.

I understand it is a p5 (probably p5 six), not a p5x.
Is the saddle different?
correct. its not the 15k bike lol. Couldn’t force myself into that purchase.

the saddle is a specialized power expert saddle. i have the adamo TT on my p2
Did you buy the right frame size? I went from a 51 P3C to a 54 P5
Im 5’9" and my P2 is a 54. I had him fit me for both and he decided they 51 was a better fit than the 54, which I am still skeptical about. Said that i have a short torso which made getting a near 90 degree angle of elbows impossible. Was able to get the 90 degree on the 51 by decreasing height of stem and dropping cockpit super low. (which is the reason i think im having so much pressure on the elbows and pain in traps).

Who is “him”? The owner you bought the bike from or someone of a bike shop ?
I hope you do not have the wrong bikesize.

Then you’re likely in two very different fore/aft positions.
the owner of the bike shop who did the fitting.
I actually find the specialized saddle much more comfortable than the Adamo. should i try to put the adamo on the P5 and see if the discomfort lessens or resolves?
