Not sure what exactly the part is called–but I’m in need of the two stop screws that allow adjustment to a Cervelo P3C’s rear wheel. Anyone have a couple extra? Anyone know the pitch/thread?
Or you can get them at Home Depot. Bring the bike in and they can check the pitch (make sure to tell them it’s metric). I think the bolts are 10mm long 3mmx1.5.
Are those the screws for the P3C and P2C as well? The descriptions says P2K and P3 so I am wondering if those are just for the aluminum frames?
A couple notes: Cervelo uses a screw that is both too light (bends easily) and rather short. If you have one of the originals, replace both with stainless steel and add a few millimeters. Gives the screw more thread contact area.
As to running without them, yes, that’s possible, but you have to be far more careful with alignment of the wheel if all you’re using is the skewer. And pushing the wheel all the way into the drop-outs will not be possible with most wheels, so you will be relying on the tension of the skewer.
Another help on these screws is to slide a couple of the rubber cable donuts on them. This will help with slippage I have found.
Yeah, I’m not going to run without them. I’m sure it would be fine for normal use, but the last thing I’d want to do is hit a turn at speed and have the wheel cock sideways and lockup.
I’ll hit up OSH–they have a pretty good selection of metric screws. I think the ones listed on the site above are for the al frame, not the carbon one.
I stripped one of the originals that came on my P2C, got the replacements listed above (P2K/P3) from ESB and they work OK but are definitely shorter so they don’t extend out the other side of the dropout. One of these days I’ll go to a hardware store and get some longer ones. Another possibility is a spare screw from one of the older computer mounts (nowadays they all seem to use zip-ties or some other plastic ratchet); I think they have the same threading.
