Cervelo P2-SL value?

Hey guys I found a 2008 Cervelo P2-SL for my first tri bike. I’m wondering what its worth? He’s asking $700 for it. Its the older alumin frame but from what I’ve read about it there’s only like 2 ounces different in weight from the newer carbon P2 bikes. It has ultegra components, vision bars and cane creek headset. It looks to be in pretty good shape. What do you guys think?

Looks like a good buy for your first tri bike!

That’s a buy, and if it happens to have a 56cm frame and you need a 54cm frame. Well have I got a trade for you… LOL

lol, its a 48cm frame with 650cc wheels, perfect for my 5’4" frame
.

This is a good buy.

Priced about right, pretty good deal for what you’ll get out of it. It’s a fast frame. You make sure you don’t junk it up with too many carry on’s, continue to work on the engine that runs it, and you’ll be surprised at how well this bike will hold up against more recent (and more $$$) models out there on the same roads.

Ya the only other bike in my area in my size is a 2010 Cannondale Slice for $1400. Any idea how much faster I should be on this bike compared to my hybrid mountain bike? I did 18.2mph on a 12 mile sprint course 2 weeks ago on it.

$700 is legit for that bike.

I’m still happy with mine, no desire to “upgrade”.

I paid about $200 more for my P2-SL 2 years ago. It is also a 650c but did come with a set of H3 race wheels along with the stock training wheels.

I would say the $700 for this one is in line with the market.

FWIW, I love the bike. I sold a carbon Orbea to buy this and I’m happy with the change.

That seems like a very fair price to me, I think you’d have a hard time doing much better than that. The group set and handlebars would cost you close to that.

I have a P2K (the earlier version of the SL) in 55cm that’s set up very aggressively, and a P2-SL in 56cm that I’m building up now, a little less aggressively, with the bars a little higher. Both have Vision aerobars, coincidentally. They’re great bikes, very solid and VERY fast. The aluminum ride is a bit harsher than carbon (I’m told, waiting for delivery of my first carbon bike now, a Cervelo RS for longer, more comfortable rides), but overall very comfortable.

For what it’s worth, I paid $700 for the P2K (with a DA crank, Ultegra derailleurs, 105 Brakes and stem). The bike came with Mavic Cosmos wheels and an extra set of Hed Jets, both with wired Powertap setups, and the Vision aerobars.
I paid $300 for the P2SL frame, and built it up with my own DA group and Vision aerobars, so I’ve got about the same into it, more or less.

$700 is legit for that bike.

Quoted for truth.

With 650 wheels you’ll be able to buy some good wheels fairly cheaply (compared to 700c wheels) down the road as well.

$700 is legit for that bike.

If it fits and is in good condition, buy it. That’s a good deal for a great bike

Ya it is in really good condition, the tires are about 70% but the rest of the bike is really clean, no scratches or dents. I’m pretty sure I’m going to buy it today.

No idea on price but I my bike is the yellow version of this bike and I love it.

The bike was never what held me back.

Well some bad news guys, he sold it to another guy a day before I was going to buy it. HOWEVER, I found a very clean 2008 P1 (51cm) for $700. I’m working on a deal with the guy right now and this bike looks to be in even better shape then the P2-SL.
