Cervelo P2 or Cervelo P3

I’m in the market for a new bike, I currently have an older P3 and I’m thinking about getting a new one. I can’t decide between the P2 or the P3, whichever one I buy I’m going to strip it down and add different bars, a power meter, components, brakes, etc. Talking to my LBS the only difference between the P2 and P3 frames (according to cervelo) are the forks but my LBS guy says he can’t tell any noticable difference between them. So the question is, if I’m going to strip the new bike down to the frame and rebuild it with what I want is there any reason to get the P3? It seems like the P2 is the way to go? P3 frame is $3k, P2 w/ 105 (you can’t just buy a P2 frame) is $2800. So I’ll be saving $200 and I can resell all the stuff that comes on the P2 complete bike.

Question I have is why even get a new bike? I just bought a 2009. Works will all my 10 speed stuff. The BB is such on the older frames I was able to be a square taper BB in it and use
my various ST cranks. Plus the older have a longer reach and lower stack which I liked.

.

As an FYI, I was able to get a P4 frame on ST classifieds for $900 in exceptionally good condition. Used frames can be really good deals.

Valid question and one I’m asking myself. I guess im trying to figure out the cost of the new build so I can determine if it’s worth it.

I’d love to get something used but I need a size 61 and they’re impossible to find
.

I would personally get the p2 and a cheap frame then move all the stuff on the p2 to the other frame & have 2 bikes… like the p3 you have if you’re moving the p3 stuff you have then put the p2 stuff on that & sell it or keep it for n00b friends to ride

Frame-wise, they’re pretty much identical bikes except this: the paint. Cervelo has intentionally made the blue/white P2 soooooo ugly. The brand new (2016?) black/white P2 looks fantastic if you can get one of those. Otherwise, I’d get the NP3 and sell all the parts just for the better look of it.
