Can anyone recommend the following for a 2010 Cervelo P1:
Rear Hydration: I see X Lab fits the P2 and above but I am having a hard time finding a bracket system to mount on the back of a P1 to attach some cages to.
Aero Hydration system: It comes with Vision aerobars so I’m not sure what system would fit here.
Bike Bag: Is there one that you would recommend to use in conjunction with the rear hydration system?
I’ll start by saying that’s a lot to lug around (particularly for racing), and over time I’m sure you’ll reassess your needs…but for the time-being carry whatever gives you the confidence to get the job done.
Fwiw I have the same bike (& aerobars), albeit a few years older. Rear mounted carriers for this model are typically clamped to the saddle rails…Minoura make one, as do many others. They all look very similar.
You’re effectively asking for 4 locations for bottles & spares, and you have at least 7 options to choose from:
on the aerobar extensions…either a horizontally mounted standard bottle & cage (fluids or spares), or an aero bottle (with straw…ie, Profile Design)
on the seat-tube…either a standard bottle & cage (fluids or spares), or an aero bottle (ie, Arundel Chrono, PD Razor, etc)
a rearward facing standard bottle & cage mounted under the saddle (fluids or spares)…you’ll have to custom rig this yourself
a traditional saddle bag (spares)
a bento box (spares)
a jersey pocket (fluids or spares)
a rear mounted carrier with two standard bottles & cages (fluids or spares)
There are other tweaks to these options (ie, rear-mounted aero bottles, spares in aero bottles, etc) that I’m sure others will chime in with.
Personally I stay clear of 3, 4, 5 & 7…thats just my preference, I climb and grind rollers out of the saddle a fair amount and dislike weight swaying around back there. For training I simply go with 2 (standard bottle) and maybe a 1 (standard) for really long training rides of 4hrs+, with spares in 6. For racing up to and incl HIM distance I just roll with 2 (aero) and spares taped tight up under my saddle (location of 4, without the bag)…if I were racing longer I’d add a 1 (standard).
If I had to have 3 bottles of fluid I’d go with 1, 2 & 3 with spares in 6 (training) or 5 (racing). Food for thought. Best of luck.
I use the profile system with my P2SL, works great with the stock vision aero bars without brackets (assuming you have them relatively close together). This plus a bottle on the seat tube is all you will need for any distance race. One of the aero bottles is probably best - plenty of threads on this here.
You could also do the bottle hammock trick with a cage zip tied to the stem - not my preference but lots of people like it.
XLabs are used by many folks so to each their own. In my experience, the XLab is mostly useful for ejecting your bottles on bumps or making it easy to put them when mounting your bike.
The one thing I would caution you on - it is easy to over estimate how much you need to carry on the bike. Most courses have more than enough nutrition. I did an IM as set up above and never touched my seat tube bottle.
