Cervelo P Series vs. BMC Time Machine 02 Disc

I’m looking at these two bikes and looking for other input when comparing.

I’ve checked fit guides and I both have a size that accommodates my fit coordinates (from a professional fitting). Here’s how I see them comparing:

Cervelo P-Series Di2 build

Pros: Top bento box storage at front of top tube, LBS for purchase and service just down the street, race-worthy wheels (maybe a disc purchase for rear later), preferred Shimano components (have a Stages LR crank that would transfer over), seems to me a more proven tri brand.
Cons: Clip-ons for a $6500 bike!, no flat kit storage built in.

BMC Timemachine 02 Disk

Pros: basebar/aerobar integration, rear storage box for flat kit, race-worthy wheels, fairings for disc brakes (is that a pro?)
Cons: would need to purchase a powermeter, top tube storage mounts near seat, nearby dealer is more MTB-focussed

Anything else for comparisons, or are some of my off in some way?

What are your fit coordinates? Namely - Pad XY and extension/pad tilt.

Pad X is 500 to the back of the pad
Pad Y is 585 on my left and 635 on my right. (Arm length difference in my humerus from a shoulder injury at the growth plate)
Tilt is 15º

That arm length thing and a long torso is what makes it difficult to find many bikes that will fit. I’m going to be moving to a smaller frame and be at the limit of reach. From what I’ve seen on fit coordinates, these two are the best options in my price range.

I’ve got a P series and similar body type. Big advantages for me was the flexibility in dialing in my fit and the familiarity with the brand for many LBSs. Hence, service and maintenance is easily obtained.

Not to mention that the bike is a sweet looking machine and plenty fast. But I hear you about the clip on bars…and it’s pricier than comparable models from other brands. Still, the advantages tipped me over to this. I was considering a Canyon Speedmac too.

Longest Pad X (rear) for BMC is 482
Lowest Pad Y at 10deg is 595
So with standard parts you miss reach by 18mm, tilt by 5deg and stack by 10mm
Next generation BMC will work for you, but you can’t get one for a while and I don’t know what the price will be

A 56 P-series you could make work

Thanks for that! It’s interesting that when I plug in my fit coordinates on Cervelo it spits out that a 54 is what I will fit on. I’m assuming that running the subsonic bracket is how the fit works for a 56 since it lowers the stack? The fit on the new BMC is for the newest model and shows I can get into a ML with a reach range of 422-508 and stack range of 555-630 with the flat basebar. But, availibility…

The Cervelo calculator isn’t much good, it doesn’t factor tilt. Still looks like they haven’t fixed the P5D one either.
Because that config is the extreme forward of the zipp bracket - tilting it will move the coordinates out of your range.
You really want to get on to the biggest frame you can as 500 pad X on a 54 is not great for stability
The subsonic bracket lowers the stack, and the FSA stem lowers the stack and gives the needed length

That will fit you nicely. My earlier points stand though

I’ve made a better calculator for the current BMC, though I have to warn that their data is inconsistent so I can’t be sure of the stem dimensions
It now appears that the only miss for your coordinates is the tilt, which maxes at 10deg on the Aeria Evo bracket.
To illustrate the difference tilt makes - here are the bikes at zero

It may be worth talking to QR as you might be able to get the bike configured in the way you require from the outset.

I should probably sit down and see what I could get in the $6-7K range for QR. not sure I like the mechanical disc brakes in the X-PR and the V-PR is too much $. I’ll have to take a look at the PRSix2disc.

You could also message them and see what the cost of just upgrading to hydrolic disc brakes would be… Thats what I did, so I could get the base spec frame, with hydo brakes.

The issue with the Subsonic bracket is you can’t use the HSF Aeria bottle, which is a big part of the design of the X-PR

Is there any stem out there that would allow me to put a PD Aria up front and stay down at 585 stack? If I’m reading it correctly, the Aria set up has a stack of 48mm and the subsonic has a stack of 40mm, so that puts me a little more upright.

I’m starting to think of going with a P-Series frame and building it up myself since I’'d be swapping out so much of the front end anyway.

The next generation bars are higher stack than the Aeria Ultimate (except for a special Pro option if you have a narrow pad width).

What’s the lowest pad Y that a P5 will get me in a 56? I assume that getting 500 for pad X isn’t a problem. I’m starting to think I can get two different aerobar extensions and pedastal the left like I am on my SC now and still have the same grip on the aerobars.

P5 Disc?

497, 584 is the closest solution

You haven’t mentioned your pad width - that is a constraint on the P5D, especially if you’re going to stack up the left side

290 outside-to-outside, 175 center-to-center of the mounting bolts for the older Tri Rig pads (I guess their the equivalent of the mini open back scoops now). I have been narrower before by about 30mm, but had to widen to fit a BTA bottle there.

You’re fine for width, make sure you get high grade bolts for the pad-riser setup.

Looking at my list of extension dimensions, USE appears to be the best chance - cut down a high rise on the left to get the correct stack increase over one of the standard ones on the right
