So my p2c has a bit of a fork problem. Apparently the aluminum to carbon bond has failed and there is a little bit of wiggle. Anybody else had this problem. Bike shop said replacement fork is $500.
$500? Pfft
If you have a bit of mechanical skill, you could buy a carbon fork off Ebay or the I-net for around $100 and a DIY install
It happens, and a little bit of wiggle is way too much if it’s coming from the bond between the fork legs and steerer–don’t ride it like that. Whether the price is fair depends on what fork you’re getting and I assume they’re doing the work, right?
Will be a lot of trainer rides until I get a new one.
I dont mind doing it myself.
I would be very careful with this.
At Oceanside 70.3 a few years ago I had the steerer tube break on the bike course. Luckily it was on a flat section, and luckily I was able to diagnose it quickly before my wheel fell off, saving me from a bad spill.
Even on the trainer that could be a painful fall.
The manufacturer was very gracious and replaced the failed fork with a brand new one of higher quality.

Was that $500 quote for an exact replacement? What year is your P2C? I have seen very plain paint scheme Cervelo forks on more than one web retailers site for $150ish. If it’s a 3T Funda Pro…maybe $500 installed is a good deal. For a late model Cervelo though I’d tell then to suck my left nut…twice for $500.

No it was for an upgrade… probably the Funda Pro. Its a 2009.

Will the 3T Funda fit my P2C? I cant find a number for Cervelo to verify
$500 is probably for the newer Cervelo fork, the FK26, which was based off of the P4 fork. At least that is what I was given for a price for one before I found someone selling one on here.
I would think you should be able to find a 3T Funda and it should fit fine. That is what came on the P2/P3 before this newer fork came out.

Yes it will, from about 2009 from memory, the Cervelo switched the P2 fork from Wolf to the 3T Funda on all it’s models (prior to that only the Dura Ace came with the 3T fork. I bought my P2 in early 2009 and it came with the 3T fork.
Why don’t you have your friend do a warranty claim?
I had the same issue with steer tube and bonding. My shop called cervelo, the sent out epoxy etc and got it fixed. No charge, and my shop is not a.cervelo dealer. You are gettin taken.

Yep, for $500 that fork better be custom wound carbon with gold tips. And, Cervelo will take care of it - even for the second owner.
