Cervelo Dual Carbon Seat Post Options

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the design of the Cervelo Aero Carbon Seat Post makes no sense? It uses the same aluminum seat post wedge, and the same aluminum head as the aero aluminum seat post that came stock with the bike. It seems like there is almost as much alloy in their carbon seat post as carbon. They just shove all that alloy into a carbon tube and want $175 for it. If they can make a full monocoque seat post for the P3, why can’t they do the same thing for a P2SL/Dual?

Has anyone come up with an all carbon alternative?

Sorry for the rant, I’m just a little frustrated.

tbro,

I would have to agree with the issue about the design If the seat post. I am of the thinking that for the most part, people who buy the Dual will most likely be riding the bike steap so why not design the bike steep or offer a seat post that is designed to be steep. I have had three different seat posts for my Dual and the weights are as follows.

Aluminum Dual Position post 350g
Carbon Dual Position post 250g
Carbon Single Position post 180g

I did start with the aluminum post at first and and with a buddy owning a bike shop, he basically gave me a slightly used carbon post from a demo bike. I never did like the design of the post with the head fitting into the shaft and it being able to flip it around and with a single bolt holding it in place. I rode the bike this way with it in the forward position for a year. I decided that I was tired of the stupid bolt set up for the head of the post. I was able to do a switch for a carbon single position post which was the lightest option and is almost a zero offset post. It has a slight offset too it but not much. With my Arione saddle cranked forward on this post, it puts me in a good position for me and puts me at about 77 degrees if I remember correctly.

I have always stated that these multi position posts look stupid, are heavy as all hell and have way too many bolts and parts too them. I get why they make them this way and it is all about sales but I would venture a guess that 90% of all people that buy a Dual or a P2SL ride steep and if the designed a post at zero offset or with a slight forward offset, it would be a lot better.

I only wish that they would have made the post that I have now with the slight offset in the forward position and I would be super happy.

I think the ugliest post going right now is the ones on the Felt bikes.

As you can see from the picture, if they put the offset in the front of the post I am sure that I could get it to around 78-80 degree and it would look good.

nice seatpost, but i hear they are very, very expensive.

They do not even sell these seperately and I had to do a deal with someone that wanted a carbon dual position post to use on their SLC-SL but I wish that I could have got the nicer lighter seat post clamp as well.

I remember seeing a pic of your Dual before and thought the seat post looked different. What brand is that single position seat post you are using, and is it even available to purchase as an aftermarket part?

It is a Cervelo seat post but it is the single position seat post for the Soloist Carbon and the SLC-SL. I am pretty sure that they do not sell it on its own. I just got lucky and if you look around or post that you are looking for one, you might get someone that wants to trade like I was able to do.
