Took my new Cervelo R3 out for it’s maiden ride today, Wow. I don’t know if it’s the placebo effect, the sheer joy of biking outside after months of indoor spin. but the bike flew.
I had the 2008 R3 with DA 7800 till last week. Great bike, took me to a lot of places. I think the 2011 is even better.
I have DA7900 on it with Rotor Cranks (non-ovalized) and HED Ardennes Flamme Rouge wheels. (BTW, I have had these wheels for over 2 years now, both on my road and tri bikes and they are awesome)

Wow, smokin’ ride. Enjoy it and ride safe!
What’s your opinion of the RS. Just curious.
I had the RS for a year after I first started riding. I had no exposure to any kind of bike other than a Soloist Team for 10 days. So, my views are based purely on how the RS felt at the time, and how it compares to the R3 and S3.
I would consider the RS as pretty close to the R3 in performance with the key difference being the more upright position of the RS.
If you are a newish rider or have flexibility/comfort issues, the RS is the absolutely perfect choice, It’s super comfortable, fast, light.
I have the 2010 R3 and absolutely love it. It is the best riding/handling bike I have ever ridden. I do not like the cheapo fulcrum wheels that came with it though. I am considering the HEdD wheels vs some Cosmic Carbones. I am leaning toward the Carbones for TT use(yes I am going to use it with clipons for tris) but the HED with 23mm rims would be nice for long road rides with alot of climbing/cornering. decisions…decisions. how do you like the HEDs for TT? Do you use a rear wheelcover?
I don’t consider myself fast enough for disc wheels or wheel covers. Right now, I try to make my feet go fast and my heart/lungs to keep up.
I have had a few deep dish wheels, Reynolds Assault for example and HED Jet 4. Very nice wheels, though a pain to change flats on. I find the HED wheels I have just good for everything, training, racing, mountains, centuries etc.
Once I move up to longer distances, who knows.
Beautiful bike! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

Even as compared with the new R3 geometry, or based off your previous R3? I’m curious if there’s any perceived difference in handling now that they’re both pretty upright bikes.

Looks good though, how do you like the cranks?
I don’t know enough about stack and reach and all that stuff. I let the great fitter, Tom, at La Bicicletta take care of that. I am also a different rider than I was when I was on the RS. One thing I know Tom did was actually widen my stance in the pedals.
It’s weird, you all know that as new riders, you tend get a death grip on the handlebars.
Now, I can barely feel them, and I think it’s a combination of better riding and better bike/geometry/fit. even though I am much lower in the front than I was on both the RS and the older R3.
I am also in a more aggressive position on the 2011 R3 than I was on the older R3.
I would have to ride an RS again to appreciate the difference.
As for the cranks, hard to say after one ride. I just felt today that the bike was magical (Yes, I am an Apple fan too;-)

I’m looking at this graph (forgive me if this is stupid). Is this thing saying that a 56cm RS is the same geometry as a 56cm R3?

How tall are you and what frame size did you go with?
Thx

I’m 5’10" and the bike is a 54. Rode it again on Saturday, Awesome!
