CDA weather thread - Never too soon

Pack your warm clothes! Weather.com is now saying hi of 63 on Sunday!

Jodi

As long as you don’t have the wind we had in Tempe…there will be PR’s all around. I’d love to race in 65 - 75 degree weather. Good luck to you all!!!

I saw that this morning as well; however, weatherunderground.com and accuweather.com are both still showing highs in the low 70’s. Still going with the vest in T1.

“there will be PR’s all around.”

8000 feet of climbing on the bike course doesn’t exactly lend itself to PRs. This taper shit is freaky: I did 15 miles today with just a couple small hills … My last 50-miler was a week ago. Gulp.

KREM.COM and KXLY.COM (2 of the local stations) have current weather forecasts, which are generally a bit more accurate than WEATHER.COM. Still looks like low-70’s - no rain.

I talked with the checkout woman at Albertsons and she said it was gonna rain on Sunday. I’m going with her forecast!

Yeah, she always says that to throw the out-of-towners off!

pack rain gear in your special needs bag just in case. I still shiver everytime I think about last years IMWI

Good Luck Jodi ~~ Race smart and have fun!!

My gawd Jodi, whatever you do, DO NOT WEAR LIGHT SILVER SHORTS FOR THE RACE!!!

Oh my God dp… I can’t even believe you actually think that’s good advice. Trying to get a Triathlete or to not think about the weather is like trying to get a kitten to ignore a piece of string.

I don’t think anyone really stresses or obsesses about the weather to the to extent their race prep suffers. Whats the harm really? we all need something in taper to obsess a little over.

Guys…stop wasting your mental bandwidth on factors that you cannot control (weather). Pack for a wide range of conditions, the day before the race you will know what the weather will be, arm your special needs bags for those conditions and let it rip.

This is an Ironman…just focus on what is in your control (tactics, nutrition, pacing…) rather than things that are outside your control…(weather, draft packs, kona slots, competitors…)

8000 feet of climbing on the bike course doesn’t exactly lend itself to PRs.

I’m really hoping that it is not really that much climbing, and I don’t think it is based on the elevation profiles I have seen. However, I think it is far more than the 900-1000 feet of climbing per loop that the Race Director claims.

No worries! I have the white ones packed and ready to go!

Jodi

Its 4,000 feet per loop alright (according to a Garmin), though not a single hill is longer than 1/2 mile or more than 250 feet of climbing. People are saying there are “17 hills” but only 5-6 count, IMO. If the old course really was 5K, then this one is 8K. Which isn’t that much: Many Century rides have more than 10K of climbing and I’ve done some halfs with 1500 feet best described as “mostly flat with a few hills.”

I still shiver everytime I think about last years IMWI

I am still shivering!

Just drove the course today. It’s beautiful!

Out and back just has one big hill, otherwise pretty flat. Plus, the next and last 10 miles is easy. It’s just the middle 20 of each loop that has the hills. They’re not terrible, but a few of them look pretty damn scary when I think I’ll be climbing them at miles 80-90. Overall, what a wonderful course, though. They really outdid themselves. It’s gorgeous, just the right amount of elevation gain, and a nice downhill in to T2.

Jodi

Post Falls’ loss = Hayden’s gain. Happy the last 10-12 bike miles will be a breeze.

Good Luck Jodi I hope you enjoy the day!! You deserve it

Thank you!

I’ll tell you all about it when I get back in town!

Jodi

You know the rules …

Kind of strange that we are only 4 days out and the 2 major internet weather sources are 10 degrees off in their forecast…

will it be 72, or 62… sleeveless on the bike, long sleeves on the bike…

But one thing is certain. It sure is beautiful today!
