CASTELLI FREE SANREMO SUIT reviews

Any opinions on this suit? also is sleeved faster then sleeveless?

I know everyone like kiwami? and champion systems but both our out of budget

I’m a fan, but I have no real empirical basis for that, just like the way it fits and functions (the front separation of the top and bottom, allowing easy bathroom pitstops, is particularly great). My only negative is that the neck opening is more boatneck-shaped than I’d like, perhaps exacerbated by my having a fairly long torso. And perhaps secondarily, the fabric feels pretty delicate, though no signs of wear after a few races.

How’s the sizing? Euro fit?

Yep, euro fit like other Castelli stuff.

But no XS for tiny people like me. S was too big, but otherwise checked all the boxes for me. Not having it in my size made my decision much easier, which was nice.

perfect pocket # and location for me…2 int he back are easy to reach, hips holsters are perfect for gels/ base salt tube/ lip balm.

Used for half and full, no issues on the swim under the suit, on the bike and on the run all felt good. I agree, the neck opening is quite wide, but allows for ample cooling.

Go down a size perhaps. I’m 5-11, 172lbs and I had to return a M for a S. No wrinkles

down a size? usually i have to size up for euro fit

depends if you want to have a relaxed fit or be aero. Like I said, I had to size to a Small from a Medium. The M bottoms were great but the top had wrinkles. Small was a bit tight in the shorts but top was smooth, no wrinkles. Oddly, the Stealth top I have in Medium fits great, but on the Medium SR kit the top was loose.

I raced IMNZ in the sleeved option. Rolled the top down for the swim and it went on very easily on my way through transition.

Overall it was very comfortable and would be my choice moving forward. I didn’t get uncomfortable at all on the ride (I didn’t run in the suit). I have never been a fan of a one piece tri suit, but this one changed my mind. Great chamois, and the cut of the suit is great!

I’m 6’3 and raced at about 180ish and wore a medium (I’m tall and swimmer build). Fit perfectly.

Pockets are great.

Castelli does test their stuff and this suit is fast.

The only negative for me, is that you can’t get it without red on it somewhere. Even still, I race any distance in this suit.

thanks I’m 6’1 190, guess a large would be my size? Also considering the roka

I had the Castelli Free San Remo Sleeved suit and sold it earlier this year. The see through mesh on the back gave me a slight sunburn on a 40 mile training ride. I went with the Kiwami Spider LD Aero and love it.

Likely a large yes. I could fit in a large but I sized down to get the tightest fit possible.

I wore the black and red version and didn’t have any issues with getting sun on my back, but I have had that issue with the Aero Race jerseys in lighter colors.

We did custom versions this year for our club…everyone has been really happy with them. Fast, comfy, good breathability, etc.

I’m 5’9", 145-47 lbs and went with an XS. Not certain who said it wasn’t available in XS, but it is. As someone else mentioned, not can be a bit tight in the short section vs.mthe top. But not a big deal once you have it on.

My only issue was I got some chafing under my arms when swimming…seemed to be from where a number of panels come together. I just slapped a couple of band-aids there in race day and had no issues. Body glide may have taken care of the problem as well, but I wasn’t taking any chances for a full.

Great suit…very pleased with our choice. The pockets are great…lots of room in the back and two gel pockets in front (didn’t use them though). And the full zipper for easy front access is awesome.

It’s quite clear on their website that sizes go from S to 3XL** (https://www.castelli-cycling.com/Products/Triathlon/Men/Tri-Suits/FREE-SANREMO-SUIT-SS/p/861607316P). I spent a good hour verifying that over the summer when I was picking a race suit. Maybe custom is different from retail though.

**I bet they sell a whole lot of those 3XL…

Castelli stuff isn’t totally predictable on fit. I have a swimmer’s build, i.e. pretty broad shoulders and chest but smaller through the waist and legs, 162 lbs, 5’10", and the medium works best for me, very snug up top, could be a tad snugger down below.

And agreed with others, the design/features are top notch.

Probably the best all-around cycling outfit. Fits well, more aero than a jersey, good materials, the shorts design makes fluid maintainence very easy, and one of my favorite features is that you never have to dig through the clothes basket looking for a matching top and bottom.

I like the fit, got the sleeved for duathlons. 6’3", 160 lbs, wear large as I do for other Castelli stuff (I wear medium for US sizing). I feel like it’s pretty tight.

For other Castelli kits I wear a large jersey and medium bibs. My shoulders won’t fit a medium jersey. That said, the medium Sanremo fit perfect, it was really tight. The large bunched up when I was in the drops. I was only planning to ride in it for a full.

Yes, I thought size-up for Euro. Interestingly I wear the ‘Large’ sanremo suit at 6’0 & 162 lbs and I wouldn’t want it any tighter tbh. I can swim with it zipped-up under a wetsuit, although I think I’d want to wear it rolled down under a speed suit for an Ironman OW swim, or unzipped if it was wetsuit legal. No issues with the neck; it seems to fit snugly everywhere.

I have the Aero Race jersey in Medium, and there’s no way I can swim with it zipped-up or run in it, as it’s too tight across my chest. Lovely & tight for the bike though.

I like that the Sanremo has rear pockets too, as I want those for LD races. Thumbs-up for this suit at the price.

Sizing was jacked up and the mesh back still left me with a sunburn.

I have several sleeved suits and the medium fits perfectly in the Fusion, Pearl Izumi, DeSoto, and Kiwami. I couldn’t even zip up the medium Castelli Free SanRemo SS. It was really small. The large was even kind of small.

No bueno.

Then there’s the sunburn issue. I’m not a fan.
