Cassette loose/play? Worn freehub body?

I just installed a new cassette on my road bike, but I’m noticing a “chinging” sound when I’m riding. I looked at the cassette and notice some movement of the cogs despite the lock ring being properly torqued.

When I looked at the freehub body I noticed some wear from prior cogs (I am running a nicer cassette now, but the wear came from a cheaper cassette that had individual cogs as opposed to the two-piece higher end shimano cassettes). Therefore, there is definitely some gouging from the prior cassette into the freehub body. Will replacing the freehub body fix this issue?

What kind of hub? Most likely it needs to be tightened. Should be a way to put a wrench or hex key on each side of the hub and tighten it up.

What size cassette? Some of the larger Shimano cassettes require an additional spacer (11-34 and maybe 11-32)

Oh this is interesting… it’s the 11-34. I’m assuming this is different from a 10-speed spacer?

I believe it is the 10 speed spacer. 11-34 cassettes will fit on 10-speed freehub bodies, so it would make sense that they’re the same. Should have come with the cassette.

You’re a genius. Thank you. I’ll buy you a beer if I ever meet you. hah.

Happy to help! I’ll gladly accept a beer if we ever run into each other :stuck_out_tongue:

Install the 10 speed spacer that is 1.85mm thick.
