Casco Warp and Warp 2

I am planning to buy a new helmet, I am interested specifically in the casco warp carbon. But I see two versions, however the second version is not on their website. Which I though was odd. Do any of you have experience with the warp 1 or 2 for triathlon? How do they behave in warm temps, cold temps, long rides, sweat etc. Ventilation was my first concern. I like all the rest.

I found this on velodromeshop http://www.velodromeshop.net/…=product&id=1330
Results from Thermal testing at Audi’s new climatic wind tunnel allowed Casco to optimise the ventilation systems of the helmet ensuring that riders do not overheat whilst using the Warp Carbon, making the helmet suitable for Road Cyclists and Triathletes in addition to Track Cyclists. Users of this helmet also include Wheelchair athletes and speed skaters.

This is the warp 1

And this is the warp 2, see more vent holes.

I would like to know the differences between these two, besides the obvious additional holes in the shell, and usage in triathlon/ironman. Any help greatly appreciated. I will not be able to try it on before buying so any fitting tips would be great as well. PS: I currently own a LG vorticce, which is great, but it is too big for me. Both fit wise and looks wise. I believe my head is 56 cm.

If ventilation is a concern this is not your helmet and the placement and minor size difference of the holes will not make a material difference. Go to the Casco web site where the current version is called the Warp Sprint (as in 200 meters on a velodrome). It is great for that or cold weather but is probably not be best choice for longer distances. They now have aero helmets designed with better ventilation so the description for the Warp has been limited to sprints.

Here’s a thread talking about the Casco a bit:

Personally If I were about to drop $350+ on a helmet I’d go elsewhere…

I’ve been using the Casco Warp helmets for around 6 years, originally the Warp Comp then the Carbon throughout each calendar year and the fears around overheating is a tad overstated by people who obviously don’t own the helmet, case in point TJ Tollakson has been using the Warp for years and competes in the middle east and has stated he has not had issues with heat. Having that in mind the ventilation is not as good as many newer aero helmets and its not as aerodynamic but the rationale for the round type helmet is frequent movements of the head during a race typically in a track where you are constantly watching your opponent and not being in a static position typically in a time trial. I chose the Warp over the more traditional pointy aero options originally due to a number of factors, choice 6 years ago in the aero helmet market was limited and not what it is today, typically a race can be pretty busy and unless you’re a FOP, you’re usually looking around frequently to have a clear race space so a pointy pretty much loses all aero advantage as soon as its not in the tucked position between your shoulder blades. For me, I’m a MOP and I tend to move my head a lot during a race so the configuration suits me. After all that background however, it would be a tough call to purchase another Warp in future given the influx of Aero choices, Evade, Air Attack, POC, Overtake, Bambino/Infinity, Bont Aero, Bell Aero, the list goes on.

In answer to your queries, temperatures up to mid/high 20 degrees 80F should be ok, there is a ventilation gap between the top of the visor and the helmet which facilitates air flow however, if you’re a heavy sweater, it does tend to drip on the inside of the visor but I would expect this to be the case with any visor type helmet. I’m a 55cm head and the helmet fit is good with the rear twist retention system and it fits pretty loosely until I do it up.

Personally now if I was on the market for a new aero helmet, I’d lean towards the Air Attack.

BTW, the Warp Carbon is CPSC Certified as Velo have published.
