Situation:
It’s hot (minimums in the high 80s- mid-90s) during mid to end of day with lots of humidity when I can do my running. While trying to stay in zone2/zone3 on long runs, after about an hour my HR jumps 10-12 BPM higher than my zone allows for. I try to stay hydrated because I’ve seen it happen w/o hydration, but this is more heat related. I’m scheduled for a 1/2 IM in August and there’s no doubt it will be hot, so I know I’m going to see this during the race and am concerned how I should pace it.
Question: Do I slow the pace (to a shuffle) to drop back into the zone or do I continue at the same pace and chalk it up to heat-induced cardiac drift that I simply have to deal with? Should I drop it or simply run through it? And at that point, is my body really going anerobic just because my HRM says it is? What do you folks do?
Thx in advance.
