Carbo-pro, anyone use it?

thoughts? al interested in mixing this with something like nuun or heed.

thanks.

Think Maltodextrin. Same thing, waaaaay cheaper without the brand name. I used this for my training and 1st IM - it rocks. Just make sure to use something for electrolytes (I used salt pills).

I use it and love it. While i love infinit and think its a great company/product it is too expensive for me when my cycling volume is through the roof(which it is now). I mix 1/4 of the 20z with gatorade or powerade in once i get the amount of cals i want, fill with water shake and im done. Its dirt cheap and is easy on my stomach. Its basically flavorless so you can have any flavor drink you’d like, which is nice when youre out there for a while. The only thing i would say is make sure you wash the bottle(and hands) off after you mix it up because there really isnt anything more annoying than stick handlebars/aerobars on a long ride.

All maltodextrin is not created equal as there are considerable differences. A $250 Wal-Mart Special 10-Speed and a Cervelo P3C are called bikes, but hardly the same thing.

You may want to have a look at this thread to give you some perspective on the differences:

The bulk 25LB bag of maltodextrin may be fine for you, I just don’t want you to think it’s the same thing as higher quality maltodextrin like CarboPro or Carb Up.

I use it quite frequently, it also makes really cheap gel, just mix in a tiny bit of water and a little cinnimon and you’re good to go. I’ll throw in a little electrolyte drink mix too so I have a little flavor and salts too. Load it in a gel flask and hit the trail.

I’m a big fan! Using the unsweetened Kool Aid packets gives me tons of flavor options. The lack of electrolytes has screwed me more than once.

I do, good stuff, mix it with reg sport drink for more Cals.

Love the stuff, but have to mix it with something to get electrolytes. It was the only thing I used for IMFL and gave plenty of energy.

Yes I love Carb pro!! I mix it in diluted gatorade. I put one to two scoops per bottle for the bike. In T2 I usually have a bottle that I carry with 2 scoops in it at the first rest stop I add H20 and Gatorade and I don’t need to stop again until that bottle is done.

I’ve used it the past 2 seasons and like it OK. I may use it for longer training stuff again this year. I picked up some infinate for a try as I had some GI issues that really slowed me down in Florida last year. But as someone else said at nearly 2 dollars a serving it’s kinda pricey.

I mix it with Nuun and love it, you can mix it pretty thick too. Almost 2000 cals in a 20oz bottle. However bummer part is no protein for longer distance stuff.

i have used this for all of my ironman’s and 1/2 ironmans. i use it as a fuel. 5 scoop of carbopro and one scoop of endurox (for flavor) in each bottle for the bike. eat a few clif bars at the beginning of the bike, but gradually move toward liquid only intake. again this is just a fuel. hydrate mostly with water or with accelerade or whatever they have on the course. i do take salt/electrolytes tablets since carbopro has none. works really well, and have never had any stomach problems with this product.

i do agree, maltodextrin or carbo pro are EXTREMLY smiliar product (even if people selling carbo pro will tell you the opposite) and can be found at many healthy food store or brewing places. It s very cheap. My only warning with carbo pro is that it countain barley and that can definitly be a problem with many people having celiac, crohn;s disease, ulcerative colitis or others sensitive digestive systeme. Other than that, it s a great product!

I used in the past maltodextrin from corn source only and that as been the best results for me. I buy it at beer brewing places. Even better is to experiemente with product like INFINIT that will combine a few other source or sugar to increase rate and speed of absoption of calories and also include all the electrolythe that you need so you get everything in one. I highly recommend to experiment with this as it make nutrition in races so simple!
