Hope some form of conviction sticks, but I guess no one here will be surprised if it doesn’t go far.
What is frustrating is that vehicle drivers don’t appreciate how dangerous this behaviour is. We have minimal protection and can very easily be killed, even by just ‘scaring’ us. We all have families too.
Everyone should have to ride a bicycle around a busy CBD block as part of getting a motor vehicle licence unless they have some form of disability. Perhaps then they would realise how stupid people can be when behind the wheel.
Perhaps you’re right. I checked with him before posting. He’s not seeking anything civil. . .not sure how it would effect anything criminal as it’s exactly what the sheriffs have down.
Suffice to say. . .cyclist got tagged by someone intentionally buzzing them. . .driver tells multiple stories and we’ll see what happens. It’s bullshit, yet nobody asides from local cyclists in the area will end up giving a crap.
I’ve been buzzed by huge domestic vehicles, and left in a turbo diesel cloud. It’s always huge domestic vehicles… always! Just a month ago a guy in a Dodge RAM was trying to see how close he could get to me. Fucker.
I have never seen a Toyota or a Honda driver behave like that, ever.
Based on the aforementioned demographics I’m considering cycling in an American flag jersey or a USMC jersey or something these fuckers will respect. Because they have no respect for cyclists.
Yeah, I’m an Army vet with tours to Iraq and Afghanistan and it’s funny how every time I get buzzed the vehicles (also almost always turbo diesels) seem to have a “support our troops” magnet on the back. They’re also probably the cowards who like to collect guns and play army but were too spineless to join themselves.

THAT times billion. They are effin pathetic is what they are.
I’ve been buzzed and exhaust bombed by gigantic trucks with HEMIs on popular biking roads around my town. I watched the car just go down the line of bikers and do the same. Almost made two women fall off their bikes. Pathetic.
On the other hand, I’ve been cursed out by folks in a Honda FiT and a Mazda Miata. Every time I was well within the bike lane so I did nothing to provoke the behavior. And I live in a bike friendly city.
Same thing in Ontario. The worst offenders seem to be black pickups and SUVs. But recently a bright red Chevy Aveo (subcompact) blew me off the road. An outlier I guess…
Unfortunately, I doubt the patriotism angle would be as effective in Canada. Perhaps a hockey jersey… not very aero though.

LOL… sorry, my bad. As you may be able to tell, I’m not huge follower of hockey. I liked the NJ Devils when I was a kid, but much prefer watching a college game now. I should have known better than that though… a Flyers Jersey in Canada… that’s just common sense!

I was, just yesterday, commenting to my coworkers that Dodge drivers buzz me/give me less room than all other cars combined. I don’t know what it is about driving a Dodge product that makes you an asshole around cyclists but this is a generalization that I find to be true ride after ride. Maybe people who drive Dodges don’t ride bikes…
Anyways, just wanted to add my 2 cents in after reading the Dodge reference above.

i used to own a ram 2500, so it is POSSIBLE, just not common :)… in fact it looked really weird having a big diesel truck with a little tri bike in the bed haha
Also keep in mind the demographic the Ram 2500 speaks to: it’s the cheapest diesel you can buy, so not only are rednecks driving it, poor rednecks are
Best buzz revenge that happened to me- i had a woman pass me at 75 in a 45 zone about a foot away from me. Luckily, one of my co-workers happened to be coming the other way. He caught her on radar, whipped around and stopped her. As I rolled up, I made sure to let him know about the near miss. She ended up getting cited for speed, reckless driving, and operating with a suspended license. I made sure to wave at her and smile as I rode away.

Well I’ve been buzzed by a Toyota mini-van. But, Beamers are the worst.
A jersey with a picture of a handgun in the middle, “Support the NRA” across the top and, “I Carry” at the bottom might work.
