I’ve had pain in my left foot, 2nd metatarsal specifically, for a few months. I finally saw a ppodiatrist today after my regular doc ruled out everything she could. The podiatrist diagnosed me as having capsulitis and gave me two treatment options.
The first option is continue with Mobic and give me orthotics. Second option was a cortizone shot. I decided on the inserts and pills first.
for those who have been through capsulitis what was your treatment and how long did it take to heal.
Couple of long/detailed posts on here if you search.
Very common pathology I see almost daily and can never really go away. Of course, non runners get 2nd MTP joint capsulitis as well since it is generally caused by a structural issue, so time off running might not help much.
Thanks rroof. The podiatrist I saw said no reason to stop running if I can tolerate the pain. In truth running hurts no worse than walking. My fear is I will subconsciously try to change my foot strike to lessen the pain and screw something else up.
I wore the orthotics for four hours yesterday for the first time. The joint pain was not bad at all last night, looks like the orthotics might work. I’ll wear them again today for a few hours.
Hey, did your capsulitis ever clear up? I’ve currently had it for about a month and a half and it’s driving me crazy!!! Do you still have it or, if it’s gone, how did you get rid of it? My podiatrist ordered some orthodics for me and I’m hoping that it clears it up as he says it will, but I’m pretty skeptical at this point.
