Canyon Wins Kona 2024

Decathlon is one of the biggest sports brands in the world, the likelihood they experience the same fate as Walmart is, to put it lightly, low

As decathlon expands across Europe and Asia and Oz the numbers will shift

Decathlon is growing in some places and shrinking in others. E.g. they closed their last store in Sweden this summer.

TT/Tri-bikes will regardless of success not be a big thing for them saleswise. Total net sales globally was €15.6B last year. I assume TT is a minor add-on to their road bike offers, (they have the knowledge and production capacity for another frame type) and to be able to provide TT-bikes to their sponsored teams.

All that said, I really welcome a player offering good affordable bikes.

Decathlon is a big sports brand? So is Dicks Sporting Goods I guess and they barely touch bikes.

WalMart had 611B in revenue. Decathlon had 13B in Revenue in 2023. When it comes to resources that each could leverage to achieve a result, WalMart has significantly more than Decathlon. We’re talking about a family that owns to NFL teams, a family that has spent $200 Million on mountain bike trails in Bentonville. Has Decathlon spent this kind of money? Probably not.

Maybe not, they have put a bike on a grand tour podium and have 23 wins I think this year, what, less than 5 years after deciding to develop bikes and having arguably the most aero bike in the peleton but sure, you’re right, they didn’t drop 200m on trails so I guess they’ll be rubbish

Ya, I’m confused… so instead of waiting for a Decathlon tri bike no one can even buy, we should be waiting for a Walmart steel frame special?

Not at all. Buy a Canyon, which you can’t buy, so really just buy a Giant Trinity.

Buy a Trinity when the disc versions could be released within half a year?

I was there this year and curious when/how was the count done?
