I don’t know how instructive this is, but I bought a Spectral 29 MTB from them this Summer, and here is the story:
The new model was announced at the end of last year, with accompanying online reviews, etc.
I signed up on the website to get notifications about availability.
I believe the first models were due to be sold in late Winter/early Spring. I forget if that happened, but if so, it was a very limited release. A date was posted for middle of the Spring for the main release.
Around the promised time, I received an email announcing the release. I saw the email seven minutes after it hit my inbox. All the bikes were sold in that seven minutes.
Website said additional bikes would be sold in June/July. I spoke to someone at Canyon, and he told me to enter an email address that would correspond to my phone/text number, so I would get that more promptly than email.
A couple months passed. I called Canyon to inquire about timing. The posted website date was very approximate, and he suggested there would be a shipment coming within a span of days not exactly corresponding to that date.
Bikes in a lower spec’d version became available. I grabbed one and it was shipped.
While the bike was in transit, I had a billing issue to discuss with customer service. The Canyon rep told me some more bikes were coming. They weren’t sure how many of each model and size would be there. Basically, he said they would be posted online when they were unboxed over a day or two, and that I should monitor the website. Again, this info was different from what was online.
After frequently checking the website, a bike was available at 7pm EST. I grabbed it, and reversed the order for the original bike I purchased (no charge). This was mid July.
I saw the bike online before any emails or text messages were received.
Lesson: talk to customer service, use the notification service, check online often when you are told they are coming, and get lucky. Don’t rely on whatever date they put there—that’s just a placeholding guess.
PS — the bike is awesome, and I am thrilled to have it
