I am trying to replace the integrated headset on my Orbea road bike. I am trying to install a Cane Creek IS-6.
I successfully removed the old IS headset, but the fork crown race is still on the fork(Alpha Q Sub3). How do I get this off?? I know there is a special tool out there…don’t got it and waaay away from anybody with one. I am hesitant to try to wedge a screwdriver under the race because it may damage the carbon fork.
Thanks for any help.

DO NOT Wedge a screw driver under there. You really want the proper tool…
But if you must…use the smallest flat head you have and LIGHTLY tap it under the race, flip the fork over and do that side, again and again till it pops off…be VERY careful to not mar the fork race and what not. I have seen in the past where it is impossible to get the crown race off with out damaging the fork…and with integrated bikes I can only see this as being more commen with the race being fully covered buy the fork with no overhang lip to knock it off with.
Okay…say you get the race off the fork…how are you going to properly seat the new one with out damaging that one? I hope you have that tool - there is no substitute…
But you can invert your current race over the new one…then you can slide a pipe down and smack the old race to seat the new race (note; this will destroy the old race). Also, be careful to not bend the shit out of your fork tips seating the new race…common novice mistake
Thanks…doesn’t make me want to try any of that, though…
Thanks for any help.
Yes go to a bike shop that has a crown race remover and installation tools. This is the safest and proper way for any carbon steertube forks…your better shops will have the remover tool - which is as important as the installation tool (more common)
