Hi
I’m interested in getting 2 new Tri bikes for my wife and I. She is new at this sport and doing well. I’ve been doing it for 30 years but have not raced in 8 years. I’m considering the cannondale slice for my wife and possibly myself. The reviews appear to report decent ride quality and comfort. I would also equip them with zipp 404’s or equivalent. I was also considering a QR PRfive Ultegra with the QR race wheels for myself instead. Any advise and opinions would be greatly appreciated. The price points on the Slice has my attention…
Thank you
Larry
I have a 2014 Slice with Ultegra mechanical. I love it. I’ve traveled with it, and done a full IM and three 70.3s on it (including ALL the gaining for those races).
It’s the only tri bike I’ve had so I have no frame of reference, but I’ve been very happy with it.
I wish I had a reason to get the new Dura-Ace Di-2 Slice just so i could have shifting on the brake handles, as I don’t have any other road bike.
Thank u for the info…does the bike seem competitive ? Is it confortable?
I’m a new Slice owner, since Dec, moving over from a Cervelo P2C. It’s taken me a bit to adjust to the even-more-forward position, and the gearing change.
P2C was 650, 50/34, 172.5, 10 sp 12-25.
My first spin on the Slice felt like pedaling through mud with 700, 52/36, 165, 11 sp 11-28. And the tighter elbow position (that I was fit with) plus much straighter s-bend extensions felt like I had no control.
But, it only took 1 ride to come around. It is very much more comfortable than my P2C was over bumps, feels really solid on the small bit of descending I’ve tried so far.
My digs are probably minor.
One is that it’s really hard to push the bike by the saddle b/c the front wheel/handle bars seem heavy and often quickly turn perpendicular to the direction of travel.
Two is the ultegra bottom bracket rear brake sticks out so I couldn’t reuse my stages PM (if I wanted to, crank length was long anyway) b/c it would not clear the brake. Word is I could change the brake but I didn’t end up going that route.
Oh, and not a dig but a note. While two frame mounted bottle cages are convenient, they aren’t easy to get to (on my frame size, 48). The front one is a tight fit/clearance with the frame, even using a small bottle and both seem far back, again like I’m more forwatd on the bike. Don’t know that I could even reach the back one while in the pads.
As far as overall speed, I can’t say much yet (have spent too much time indoors over the winter) other than the stock setup on the Slice is MUCH lighter than that for my Cervelo was. Haven’t tried the Slice with race wheels yet.
Guess I give it a thumbs up at a 45-60 degree angle so far.
Super comfortable. Competitive, I don’t know. It’s not a super bike where everything is integrated, but there are a handful of pros riding the slice.
Of all the things slowing me down I never thought my bike was one of them.
Also, on my 2014 slice I run a stages pm just fine, but the brake is up top on the back wheel.
Stages will fit on the 105 setup, but there doesn’t appear to be enough clearance on the ultegra. Not sure the value is there going from 105 to ultegra anyway. Durace at the new price points is something to consider.
For the money, I think the slice is great value. The front end is not very adjustable. I am forever eying upgrades to a new cockpit.
I echo the concerns with pushing the bike through transition. The front end swings wildly. I would recommend placing a protective film on the frame to prevent paint chips from the front brake when the front wheel over rotates.
Slap some nice race wheels on the slice and a new cockpit and you will be very happy with your purchase. My only regret is buying in too early (it is an incredible value at the reduced pricing).
