Cannondale six13 problems,anyone have these?

so my cannnondale six13 bike is making some funky noise now and when I took it to my LBS the only answer they could come up with was that the aluminum downtube had come unjoined from the carbon part and was making a rattling noise, a definite problem. Heres a link to a review which better explains how the frame is layed up http://www.bicycling.com/article/1,6610,s1-1-2-10281-1,00.html. Unfortunately my LBS doesnt deal with cannondales so whats my best option? Is the frame covered by any warranty(I don’t have the purchase receipts) so don’t really know what to do next save buying another bike. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Where did you purchase the bike from? Are you the original owner? If so, you can probably send it in for a warranty replacement.

You might try finding a Cannondale dealer so that they can look at it as well as they may be more familiar with that particular issue if that is indeed happening.

Are you sure it’s not a loose water bottle mount? The later Six13s use rivnuts for water bottle bosses in the aluminum seat tube. The rivnuts are well known for coming loose. They can be easily tightened by a competent LBS using a special tool, or done in a more primitive fashion using this tip from Park Tool: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=147. It would be unusual for a Six13 frame joint to come apart, since they are both mechanically and chemically bonded. Good luck!

Are you sure it’s your frame that’s making the weird noise? It’s often hard to tell what’s causing weird creaks and cracks on your frame. Could be anything from your cranks, your seatpost/saddle, your pedals. I haven’t had problems with my six13 in the time I had it.

thanks for the tips. i actually first checked the cranks(they have been a source of a weird sound before) and the water bottle holder but all checked out. The sound is a distinct one and the mechanic deduced that the frame was the culprit. I’m on my way down to the bike shop who deals with cannondales(one that I dont usually go to) and see if they can offer any help. I dont have the receipt but hopefully cannondale will honor their warranty, if not, anyone have a 58 cm road bike for sale?

I wish you luck, broken bikes stink. I sent you a PM on a 58…good luck whatever happens. If the bike is in good shape I have a sneaky suspicion Cdale will do right by it…just my gut from past experiences with 2 cracked Slice forks, one of which was on a 2nd hand eBay bike.
