Anyone ever ride or comment on the Cannondale Multisport 2000 (CAAD4 frame, circa 1999 or 2000? I am looking at it for sprint and Olympic distance.
I rode one back in the day. Light, fast, and aero. I felt the top tube ran a bit longish, but no real complaints for short distance riding.
I have one. I’ve never had a problem. I’ve used it for every distance (sprint-IM). It fits me great, I won’t change any time soon (no cash if I wanted to change).
I have been riding one for 4+ years now, I love it, done everything from sprints to an Ironman on it.
Great bike – really stiff - you can read brail as you ride over it. I did an Ironman on one too – but never again.
The bike is fast and fun and great for sprint and olympic distance.
If you do not already have them - race wheels should be your next purchase.

Same here. OUCH!!! I thought I’d been sawed in half by mile 90.
Have you changed any components?
The bike I am looking at is a 60cm and I am 6’1". It seems like it will fit, but won’t know until I have it professionally fit. What have you done to get a good fit?
It came with full Ultegra, I have since changed/upgraded some of the components just because I like to support my local bike shop. The only thing you MUST change is the saddle, however if someone has been riding this bike since 99/00 I would be willing to bet they have already done that. The stock Coda saddle was a POS.
i have the 99, ms 2000 and i love it. i’ve trained/raced on it for 5+ years in everything from sprints to im’s. i think it’s quite comfortable (in part of because of a great fit by paul levine) over all those distances as well. i’ve used it extensively on the trainer in the winters and it’s held up just fine, despie minimal maintenance.
No component changes. I do have race wheels. The only real trouble I had was with the original rear wheel. The original wheels had radial spokes and I went through a period that I kept popping spokes. The wheel was rebuilt double or triple lacing the spokes. (I was over 200 lbs. at the time). As far as fit, I purchased the bike through Tom D.'s store so it was fit really well. I have had him look at my fit a couple of times since then (He does bike fits for our club) and we’ve never changed a thing.
I had my wheels rebuilt as well (no I am not over 200 lbs). According to my mech this is a common problem with those wheels. I didn’t pop any spokes, but when I bought the bike my mech would check them everytime I brought it in just to be safe. I trusted him to make the call on rebuilding. Love the bike. I actually saw 2 identical to mine go by on the course at Kona…kj
ditto, I have one, no issues, I do numerous 100 milers every year on mine, not to mention sprints and oly’s
.
If Cannondale sizing is consistent though out the line, a 60cm is too big for you. For a few years I rode a '99 CADD3 road bike. I'm 6'0" and I rode a 56cm that fit me to a T. Judging by that, I'd say that you need a 57 or 58cm tops. Beware! You can change a lot of things on a bicycle, but if it's too big, it stays too big.
Old saying; “If everyone doesn’t tell you that your bicycle is too small; It’s too big!”
I just bought a new Cannondale IM1 frame with the alloy Hollogram crank today. Big fun.
pretty sure a CAAD 4 multisport 60cm would be 57 cm from middle of bb to top of top tube, 59cm top tube (yea they were real long then) and an 82 standover. hope that helps.
The sizing chart for the CAAD4 can be found at the following link:

I’ve ridden the CAAD5 Aero for a couple years. I think the only difference is the CAAD5 has an integrated headset. It’s a very strong and stiff frame, but I like them that way.
Tom,
Are you still going to IMWA, and will you be riding the new Cannondale?

Review it please!
(we need some new reviews to read on the Bikesport site…)
Beware of the Cannondale Coda Stem, it will fail. You will hear some unexplained creaking before it eventually snaps.
Sorry to hear.
Just an FYI, just b/c yours failed does not in any way mean everyone else’s WILL fail. Not even close. Bad weld on yours. Weight. Hitting bump(s). Salt intrusion. etc etc.
I had a Coda stem on my R700 for about 8 yrs w/o ever an issue.
