Cannondale CAAD10

Who owns a CAAD10 road bike? How do you like it?

I got one at Uptown Cycles earlier this year. Love it. I’m not experienced enough to comment on specifics, but I sure don’t have any complaints. I went from a Specialized Secteur (the aluminum version of the Roubaix comfy bike) and didn’t really notice a decrease in comfort.

Cannondale made the best aluminum bikes until they got bought out and moved production to Asia. Now they’re the same as your GT, Schwinn and Mongoose walmart specials.

The CAAD10 is still a freakin’ nice bike for the money.

Just because all of those companies are owned by Pacific Cycles doesn’t mean the quality is the same. Cannondale still does research and design process in house.

The joints on the CAAD10 look like a 5 year old was being taught to weld.

They look pretty good to me.

i’m going to assume this is an exaggeration/joke/whatever.

if you’re serious, what are you basing this assessment on?

Yes, I was trolling/joking for the most part. BUT I think that moving production to Taiwan lost Dorel/Cannondale a lot of credibility within the community. With the CAAD10 I can’t help but feel like redesigning the tube profiles was their attempt at trying to make up for a lower quality/cheaper product. I rode a 9 for two years and tried a 10 with the same wheels and crank and it felt terrible. Personal opinion? Yes.

I don’t own one. I’ve ridden one.

If I snap my crit bike (s-works tarmac sl2) I’m going to replace it with a caad 10.

Right. Compare that to

i love my caad9 and the fact that the 10 doesn’t say made in america down the chain stays definitely makes it less desirable.

first i’ve heard that the redesigned tube shapes was an attempt to mask a lower quality product.

Wow, that CAAD9 frame looks carbon. Quite a difference from the obvious welds on the CAAD10. I wonder if the CAAD10 welds are stronger? They’re certainly bigger.

Assuming the above statement is made based on the photos, keep in mind, the two photos have different resolutions, and the frames have different finishes (clear coat vs matte). I’ve looked at both in person, and didn’t notice anything that would sway me either way in how attractive the weld is or in how the weld performs.

I’m not worried about the look of welds.

I also have the CAAD9. Great ride, and beautifully welded.

I would be. I’m not going to turn this into an America vs. Outsourcing argument but I think the framebuilders at the Cannondale factories in CA and CT took a bit more pride in their work and thus would make a better effort to create a quality product.

'MERICUH (haha)

'MERICUH (haha)Quality…how so? Is there any evidence to suggest that the caad10 is inferior to the caad9 in any way?

Do you mean just the look of the welds?

The 10 is an outsourced and overdeveloped abomination of a time tested US-made product that was sacrificed by a bike-conglomerate to save a few bucks. It’s too soon to tell if the 10 is as high quality as the 9 but in my book it’s not until proven otherwise. What makes you think the 10 is so special anyway? Redesigned tube shapes? Thick welds?

I have a 2012 Caad 10-3Ultegra (white/red) and I love it. I had read about the “bad weld” issue before I bought so I had my friend (who is a welder) come with me to look at the bike and I got his approval. I don’t think there is an issue at all with craftmanship. The bike is great…16lbs 11oz; size 50cm, stock build with pedals, cages and computer. Climbs really well, nice and stiff and really comfortable despite everything I have read about aluminum. I had a S2 from the company with the french e and an argon e112 before this bike…I would not trade it for either of those bikes.
