Sunday comic removed from entire Gannett chain and some Hearst papers, because slavery and Florida.
Not that I disagree with any of the sentiments, but seems a little hard hitting for a Sunday comic.

First time reading Doonesbury?

Yes, I haven’t read comics in decades.

Doonesbury has been “hard hitting” since it debuted over 50 years ago.

I’m clearly well behind the times! So what put this over the edge was mentioning Desantis and Florida specifically?
I cannot find any Google hits on the Doonesbury comic being pulled - where do you read this?

Posts on X. Trying to find newspapers that used to carry it and didn’t (but that is difficult to do for me). Not like they were going to announce
that they dropped it on Sunday.

Not one mention of slavery in that comic.
Edit to add: much like Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love. What’s that song about again?

Look closer. It’s there. ![]()

A lot of papers shuffle their comic lineup and it makes sense that Doonesbury has been dropped by papers serving conservative markets. Your post made it sound like they didn’t run this specific comic at the last minute. Is that the case?
Is that the case?
Yeah, I’d think if that was the case it’d be in the news by now…I see nothing for Doonesbury censorship for the last few years.

First panel. The “S” is cut off the panel on the left side.
Seventh panel. The “S” is blocked by the teacher’s head.
No imagination required.
Whole Lotta Love is about infatuation and raw sex. What is your interpretation?
