Canadian Long Course Championship anyone have updates?

Anyone have any updates on this race?

.

I wish!

Go Jonnyo and Miranda!

Jodi

Jonnyo wins.

WOW that is fantastic.

Do you have times etc?

.

AWESOME. I guess he really didn’t want to go back to Quebec!

Any word on Miranda?

Khai… living in BC near you as been a inspiration to my carrear and as much as i like Quebec, i m still not done learning from you so i had to find a way to stay…

too bad the big hitter werent there…missing was tom evans, jasper blacke, Scott curry, Kyle marcotte… but, I GOT THE WORK DONE!

Miranda didnt had a normal Miranda day, she just didnt had her normal power on the bike… and didnt had the day she wish, she still won her age group but i think she wanted MORE!!!

what s next for you? When will you teach me more… i have a big race coming up in 7 weeks!!!

You’ve come a long way, baby. A long way.

Next, we work on your mental game and being used to the pressure of being at the top. I can’t have you whining about my being to hard on you
when we set goals.

Enjoy your win tonight. We’ll get started soon enough.

Way to go! All that hard work laying on my couch last winter is paying off! I am thinking I will follow that plan too and see if I can win a championship!

For you, we start with an intesive Degrassi/Saved by the Bell regimen.

I don’t get Degrassi, so I know that wasn’t a part of his winter training regimen. But, I do know rice seemed to be essential to the plan, so maybe I will eat some rice as I lay here on the couch…

Ah, but the jonnyo has YEARS of base built up from his time spent with Brian as well as out at the NTC in Victoria.

You wouldn’t expect to jump right into Natascha’s training program, would you?

As for the rice, it is a staple for anyone who’s spent time in Vancouver. The jonnyo has travelled far and wide, and learned his lessons well.

I wrote my RR on the way home.

Not even a proper cautionary tale this time … I’m still trying to figure out what the moral is

Well, first off, a huge shout out to Joe and Sarah Dixon of Outback Events. Osoyoos was an awesome race. Great course and brilliant support.
Every detail from the great signs directing you to registration to the awesome race swag and great after race food was really well taken care of. Definitely a race that’s focused on a great experience for the participants. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun fair race on a challenging course.

Jonnyo won the men’s race which was great to see. Lots of hard work is paying off spectacularly for him this year
My friend and clubmate Karen also had a spectacular breakthrough race, winning her age group and coming sixth overall. Very happy for her. She is going to ROCK IMC!

I didn’t have the day that I wanted to.

We started the swim and a lot of people went ahead of me straight away. Then, after a few minutes, strangely enough, it started to feel like I was trying to pass people. Really rough. I totally didn’t expect that in the smaller race with a seperate wave for women and men over 50. Got clawed, whacked, kicked, goggles knocked off … The worst part, though was I think when we started catching the wave in front. Never before have I encountered a person actively trying not to let me pass. Eventually, I just got really pissed and swam over the dude but wow …
Oh … and it was really hot. Not quite as bad as I had feared but these borderline wetsuit swims really make me wonder sometimes if I wouldn’t be better off just swimming without. Anyway, crappy swim time. Like 38 and change but … whatever. I can make most of that up, I hope.

Then, I get on the bike. Immediately out of transition, there is a hill out of town and immediately, I know that I am in deep trouble. The legs don’t want to do anything. I feel really sick.
OK … drink, Miranda. Take it easy. Spin. Eh … well, try to spin. A lot of these smaller hills demand a pretty good effort to get over. OK. Out on the highway heading up the bottom of Richter. Chill.
Well, I’m riding really easy. people are passing me like I’m standing still and my hip flexors are still cramping on me like crazy.
Well, nothing for it but to suck it up and try to ride the plan. Either it will get better or it’s going to be a long day. So I ride up Richter somewhere slightly below my planned target effort. I am just about crying from how badly that hurts. Karen goes flying past me! What a rockstar! Roller 1 is about the same. After that, things get a little bit better for a while but I’m still struggling with feeling nauseous. It’s really hot and I know that I need to drink and eat but every time that I do, I feel even worse. Whatever … just do it. I try water, I try salt tablets but nothing seems to make much difference so I just stick with the typical nutrition plan of gels and Gatorade.
After the turnaround, I still haven’t seen any of the girls that I was hoping to chase. This is a pretty depressing time. I’m totally struggling to ride anything over about 120 Watts and I’m SO far back from where I want to be. Very hard to stay focused and keep pushing. Finally, climbing up to nighthawk, I manage to throw up a little bit. I really wish I could actually puke properly and start again but that’s not to be.
One good part was coming back down Richter into Osoyoos. I’m still not quite sure how I made it up the back side of the pass without falling off my bike but somehow I did and then, it was awesome coming back down into and thru town. Frejya cruises with her beautiful race wheels!
Now to the run. Finally off the F&^*ing bike … I am quite excited. I love running. I will catch some chicks yet!
Then I try to stand up … ehh …
I have to confess that I was really close to calling it a day at this point. Karen’s sister Sandra is cheering me on, though and I hear lots of other North Shore folks yelling for me too. I’ll give it a try. Maybe it will get better.
Well, I don’t think that it got any worse. My calves basically locked up solid when I got off the bike and sorta stayed that well until well after I stopped. I’ve read people’s race reports about these kind of problems before but I’d never REALLY appreciated just how painful it could be. I have a lot more appreciation now for what it means to finish an IronMan feeling this way.
I finally stumbled across the finish line crying in 7th place. Humbling.
I wish that I had a clue about what I could have done to cause this. The only time that I’ve ever had cramps before is in training when I’ve REALLY been pushing hard over a long period of time. Never racing and never when I wasn’t totally fried. As far as I can tell, I did all the same things about food, hydration and salt before this race that I’ve done before many others.

Oh well … stuff happens. It’s a good thing that they have more races

Miranda you’re still a rock star in these parts of the world! It’s funny if you talk with anyone one from NSTC they speak highly of you.

Congratulations to Jonnyo too. Those are some impressive race wins.

Osoyoos is one tough bike course. I think I’ll stick with Oliver. Joe and Sarah do put on great races.

wow… that is a hard way to race. i hope you’re able to figure out what happened… good job for hanging tough!

Congratulation jonnyo on your win! Very impressive back to back wins.

Sounds like a tough day other, but you still finished strong and kicked ass! CONGRATS Miranda!

Damn girl, sounds like you had a really tough day out there. Way to pull it together and finish strong! 7th woman overall and 3rd AG, while not what you had been hoping for is still pretty damn good!

Congrats!
