Has anyone taped (or glued) one to the side of a disc wheel and had it work?
I need a new sensor for my track bike and was thinking of either taping it to the side or putting it in the valve hole, but before buying one I thought I’d ask.

Worth considering the wheel (un)balancing aspects.
Not worried about it if I mount it next to the hub

Wheel speed?
First, going to take an unconventional stab at this one:
Since this is track, your gearing is fixed unless you swap chainrings or cogs. So if testing, you could in theory just do the math on your tire diameter and gearing and put it on a crank arm. Not sure if the mounting orientation of doing that will still allow the sensor to detect the rotation.
Second, the conventional take:
I asked this recently and was told to buy a mag pickup speed sensor and mount the mag to either the internal spoke on a HED disc or if a solid disc mount it to the valve stem. Then the pickup would go to the seat stay as normal.
Yes, you definitely can. A number of our customers have asked this question of the years. A great product for this is Loctite Multi Purpose Repair Putty. It will hold the magnet in place and will also come off. Another option is two sided Gorilla Tape. We’ve used this to hold accelerometers in place without issue. The tape is a bit easier to use and work with.
Thanks for your thoughts:
When I googled this question, I saw using one on the crank was proposed. I think it was on the garmin forums but it could have been on weightweenies. I regularly change gears and wheels so while I could figure it out, I’d have to do it for each gear and tire combo.
I recently broke my mag sensor, I was going to buy another wheel sensor and the Wahoo seemed to be the logical choice because it’s fairly thin.

Thanks for your help
I ordered one today
Will this work for derailleurs on track bikes too?

I don’t understand exactly what you are asking but if you want to know if it will work on a disc wheel that is on a tri or road bike with a rear derailleur, I would think so.
Most track bikes do not have derailleurs. Did you mean something else?
You can add the putty or tape to a track disc as long as there is enough clearance for the magnet to pass through the frame.
Just FYI for anyone interested:
I’ve confirmed it works, just like jonthornham said it would.
