Can you manually set/correct the power meter slope with Garmin 800 or 910xt?

I was disappointed to find out that I can’t manually enter a slope into my garmin 705 (despite what the Garmin web site indicated). I know that the PC7 will allow a manual slope for SRM and Qalvin will do this for Quarq but are there any garmin units that will do this? I would like to not have to send my SRM back for service every time I change the chain rings or replace the battery.

As far as I know, no.

I bet the confusion for you came about because of the ANT+ mis-use of the term “calibration” for what is actually zeroing, huh?

What confused me was the following from SRM’s site (which got it from Garmin’s site). After 30+ minutes with a very patient guy from Garmin (who repeatedly had to check with their internal support folks who claimed that it was possible), I was told that Garmin must have been mistaken. Now SRM “thinks” that the 800 will allow manual slope entry. Checking accuracy is not hard (just put it in zero offset calibration mode and hang a known weight from a pedal and plug the #s into an on-line calculator like this one: http://www.cyclingpowerlab.com/powermetercalibration.aspx). Now I know it is not accurate but I can’t fix it without sending it to SRM (close to $100 with shipping) or getting a new head unit.

Can I manually enter the slope of my PowerMeter into a Garmin Edge 705?
Yes! Garmin has released an update to their firmware, connect your Garmin to your computer and update it through their website. Then, you’ll be able to enter the slope by doing the following:

Go to Settings > Ant+Sport > AccessoriesMove the thumbstick left > right > left from any field on the page, to bring up a new pageThe top number on the screen will be the ID number of the PowerMeter that is connectedThe field below it allows you to manually enter the ID of the PowerMeter you want to work with, or to enter “0” to get the Garmin to search for any available PowerMeterThe second enterable field is called “Slope”, and here’s where you can manually enter the slope of your PowerMeter, if you wish to do so.

Huh…I’ll have to see what my 705 says when I do that. I haven’t worked with it in awhile, but I’m pretty sure I have the most up to date firmware…

Spoke with another Garmin rep to find out about the 910. He said I could set the slope for the 705 but it was different than previously described. He used a 705 with version 3.3 and had a bike with a Quarq close by to verify. I can’t get this to work with my 705 or my wife’s; I tried this with a wireless SRM and a Quarq. I would like to know if anyone else can get the right screen. Here’s the procedure:

pair up the 705 with the PM and conduct the zero-offset (Accessories–>calibrate). toggle up to the box that asks ‘power meter present’. This will already be highlighted as 'yes’while turning the cranks backwards, move the toggle to the left. What should happen is that it will show the power meter ID. I think you then highlight the PM ID and it will show ‘sensor details’ and a field for slope. I can’t get this screen (i.e. when I toggle left in the ‘power meter present’ screen nothing happens). Note that this is not the same screen as you get when you toggle left, right, left (this screen just displays the PM ID but doesn’t allow any slope changes from there).I updated my software to version 3.3 and still nothing. It’s frustrating to be so close but without results.

I just tried this with my 705 (SW version 3.30) and a Cinqo. Nothing happened with the left toggle while turning the cranks (backwards since it was hanging up)

The only way to change the slope on a Quarq powermeter is with the Qalvin app or sending it back to us at the factory.
